THE MANDALORIAN actress Gina Carano finally reached a settlement in her years-long dispute with Disney over her wrongful termination.
“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said.
“Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect,” the spokesperson continued. “With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
The star was fired from the series in 2021 after she shared political views on social media. At the time Disney fired her, UTA also dropped her as a client.
Last year, Carano filed a lawsuit requesting $75,000 in damages.
Disney attempted to throw out the lawsuit under the First Amendment. It claimed it had “a constitutional right not to associate its artistic expression with Carano’s speech.”
“Disney has confirmed what has been known all along, they will fire you if you say anything they disagree with, even if they have to MISREPRESENT, MALIGN, and MISCHARACTERIZE you to do it,” Carano wrote on X at the time. “They are now on record letting everyone who works for them know that Disney will take any chance they get to control what you say, what you think or they will attempt to destroy your career.”
“Glad we cleared that up. The First Amendment does not allow Disney to wantonly DISCRIMINATE, which is what they have done in my case and frankly have now admitted they did. If you ever wanted to know what today’s ‘Disney values’ are, they just told you,” she wrote.
Tesla Motors owner Elon Musk funded her lawsuit after he promised to pay legal bills for those who’ve been fired over social media posts.
On Thursday, Carano wrote a long post, thanking all those involved in her case, including God.
“…To my lawyers at … Schaerr|Jaffe who walked me through this unknown territory, thank you for your wisdom and guidance. I am humbled and grateful to God for His love and grace in this outcome,” she said. “I’d like to thank you all for your unrelenting support throughout my life and career, you’ve been the heartbeat that has kept my story alive…”
In June, Carano opened up about her faith to The Daily Caller’s Tucker Carlson.
“I’ve always been a Christian, but I never felt so much like one as I do these last few years, and it just keeps growing,” she said. She also expressed that religion has been used wrongly throughout history and believes that’s wrong.
In 2023, she wrote, “For me, I have faith God is a just God, He hears our cries and knows our hearts. The wrath of God is what the ones doing evil unimaginable things should really be in fear of, not bombs, not human judgment, but Gods judgment.”
As of right now, Carano is not slated to return to her role as Cara Dune in the Star Wars franchise, but Disney may hold more opportunities for her in the future.
