New York Jets linebacker Demario Davis and his wife, Tamela, got candid about the sacrifices Tamela made while he chased his NFL dreams.
“For the final episode of the season, I’m stepping out of the host chair and into the hot seat!” Tamela posted on Instagram about her “Tea With Tamela” podcast. “My husband @demariodavis is taking over the mic to ask the questions that help me share the parts of our story you often don’t see…We’re pulling back the curtain on the heart behind The F Word and the reality of the hats I’ve worn to support our shared dreams. If you’ve been watching from the outside, this is your invitation to hear the full story from my perspective.”
“You had to sacrifice your dream to walk alongside my dream. You invested your fuel into a vehicle that I was driving, and without that fuel, we don’t have what we have today,” Demario said on the podcast. “Like I was running on 85 unleaded, and you put premium fuel into what was going on. We wouldn’t be where we are inside the game, where we are as a family, where we are off the field without the fuel that you brought from your journey and all those years being injected into this car.”

“That’s the part people don’t see, or they don’t appreciate,” Tamela added.
Demario added that people only see the “exterior,” not what goes on inside.
“Nobody is looking at the engine of the car. So what I would just encourage people is, when you look at someone’s story, whatever you’re seeing, it’s only the headline. It’s so much more content that’s going on underneath, and the only way you’re going to get that information is if you humble yourself and ask questions,” he added.
This year at the NFL honors, Demario was recognized as a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee as well as a nominee for the Art Rooney Award, accomplishments he wouldn’t have achieved without his wife.
“Being recognized as a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee and as a nominee for the Art Rooney Award reflects the many people who have poured into us and continue to shape how we show up as leaders, partners, and servants,” Demario shared on social media. “This recognition belongs to our family, our teammates, and our community just as much as it belongs to this moment.”
“We carry this responsibility together, understanding that leadership is not defined by a single night, but by the consistency of how we show up for others,” he continued. “It’s shaped through faith, strengthened by accountability, and guided by a commitment to serve with care. We left NFL Honors inspired by my brothers across the league and more committed than ever to the work God has placed in our hands. To keep leading. To keep serving. To keep living out the mission.”
When you look at the life of an NFL player, many people just see the sacrifices the athlete made to play at the highest level, but family support systems certainly made all the difference.
