Dolly Parton just updated fans about her health, sharing “some good news, and a little bad news.”
“The good news is, I’m responding really well to meds and treatments, and I’m improving every day,” she began a recent Instagram video. “Now, the bad news is, it’s going to take me a little while before I’m up to stage performance level, because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit swim-headed, as my grandma used to say.”
Knoxville WVLT-TV reported that Parton has dealt with kidney stones in recent years which have taken her away from events.
“Lord, they dig more stones out of me a year than the rock quarry in Rockwood, Tennessee,” she joked. “But seriously, my immune system and my digestive system got all out of whack over the past couple, three years. And they’re working real hard on rebuilding and strengthening those.”

But she’s keeping her spirits up. “They say that a happy heart is like good medicine. Do you think I might be overmedicating myself right now?” she laughed.
Due to her health issues, Parton announced that she will be missing her Las Vegas residency scheduled for later this year. The show was initially supposed to run in December 2025 but was postponed until September 2026 for her health.
“I’m going to miss all of you that had tickets to see me in Las Vegas. Well, you get on to Vegas and you have a big time. And hopefully, sometime you’ll come up to New York and maybe see my show, and I’ll see you somewhere down the line,” she told fans, referencing the upcoming Broadway musical about her life called “Dolly: A True Original Musical.”
She announced that the musical will be opening in New York later this year or early next winter.
But just because Parton isn’t on stage doesn’t mean she’s slowing down.
“I still do videos. I still record. I run up and down to Dollywood now and then. And I’m working hard on getting my museum and my hotel open in Nashville later this year,” the “Jolene” singer said. “And I am spending a lot of time writing and reworking on my Broadway musical.”
She also thanked fans for showering her with love and support following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, last year.
“…after going through a year of firsts — I mean, the holidays, and especially our wedding anniversary and the day of his death, March 3rd — you know, that was hard for me,” the “9 To 5” singer reflected. “But you would be surprised at how much your love and concern meant to me during that time. Lord, my house and my porch look like the botanical gardens with all the flowers, and my den look like the post office with all the cards and letters.”
“I just want you to know I thank you for standing by me and that I will always love you,” she concluded.
Let’s keep Parton in our prayers as she focuses on healing.
