Lauren Daigle on Anxiety, Depression: ‘God Will Meet You’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Lauren Daigle is sharing some encouraging words for those struggling with anxiety and depression.
“I have dealt with panic attacks,” she said in a video for Air1Radio. “That was kind of a new thing in my life. Anxiety, depression. And the more I decided to lean into God and say ‘God, despite what I see, despite the chaos that is surrounding me and the way that I feel and the way that all of this works; despite that chaos, I have to trust that You know what is greater.’”
Daigle admitted that “there are moments where that trust is definitely shaken,” but she encouraged others to bring those doubts to God.
“I bring it up with Him, whether it is trauma that has induced panic, whether it’s trauma that’s inducing anxiety, whether it’s trauma that’s induced depression — it doesn’t have the final say over your life,” the singer explained. “It doesn’t have the full control. You might feel out of control, but it actually does not have the full control.
“The beauty of God is that He will meet you right where you are,” Daigle said. “Do your best to go through. Don’t retreat because you have everything in you that is capable and needed for the course at hand.”
Daigle often talks about the importance of leaning on her faith when she’s struggling.
“You feel like you’re crazy,” she said of panic attacks during an appearance on Sadie Robertson Huff’s podcast. “You do wonder what is going on, like, ‘I feel like something else is taking over my body.’ But these are the things that I really feel like the Lord has brought me through.”
She explained that turning to scripture helps in her overwhelming moments.
“God created the world. It says that He ‘breathed the world into existence. He breathed life,’” Daigle said. “If I am feeling like I’m dying — that’s what a panic attack is; it’s a fight-or-flight response — if I’m feeling like I’m dying, but I have access to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords who created this world with breath, I’m going to say, ‘Alright, God, I’m going to breathe. I’m going to breathe through this moment because you can give me life in this moment.”
Daigle recently celebrated winning Billboard’s Top Christian Artist award of 2023.
“This is the award that I treasure from the bottom of my heart,” she said in an Instagram video. “I love it so much because it’s not a popularity contest. The Billboards are because fans show up and show support for the thing I love to do. To put music out that reaches the souls of man, that’s the thing I want to do for the rest of my life.”
Movieguide® recently reported on her win:
Riding on the success of her newest self-titled album “Lauren Daigle,” Lauren Daigle was named Billboard’s top Christian artist of the year.
“It’s been an incredible year,” Daigle told Billboard. “New creative collaborators, new producers, new writers and most of all new friends. Our fans on the road have been so incredible and we can feel their love and their energy every single night, and for me that connection (to our music) is inspiring.”
“I am so unbelievable grateful for [my fans],” she continued. “To be able to do what I love and look forward to so much more in ’24.”
“Lauren Daigle” marked the singer’s first album-length project since 2018. It debuted at No. 1 on the top Christians album chart, with the lead single, “Thank God I Do,” finding notable success. Daigle, however, also faced backlash as the project also saw her departing from pure worship, with parts of the album being secular pop.
