THE CHOSEN App Rockets to Top of App Store with Season 4 Release

By Movieguide® Contributor

The excitement for Season 4 of THE CHOSEN was undeniable earlier this week as the show’s app jumped to the No. 1 spot on the Apple TV App Store and the second spot on the App Store’s free app chart.

The incredible showing came as the first episode of Season 4 released to streaming. THE CHOSEN later revealed that in the first three days after the episode’s release, it had been streamed 3.5 million times, reaching roughly 4.2 million viewers in the U.S. – a near 100% growth in reach from the release of Season 3.

“The numbers are great, but what speaks to us far more are the comments and emotional response from the viewers,” said Dallas Jenkins, the show’s creator. “The crying emojis in the chat and the expressions of how much the ending impacted them were overwhelming.”

This emotional response was felt during the season’s theatrical release as well, with many fans warning others to prepare themselves for many highs and lows.

“[We don’t] shy away in this season from the bittersweet, from the pain, the suffering,” Jenkins told Movieguide® in January. “I think if we ignore that or gloss over it or imply that Jesus makes everything okay, I think we’re not being honest…however, throughout this season, you also see Jesus saying, ‘Stay with me…if you stay with me, if you keep your eyes on me, there is a conclusion to the story, and it is joyous, and it is peace, and it is all the things that I promise, it just isn’t now.’”

The first episode of the season was released on June 2, followed by the second episode on June 6. The rest of the season will be released on Sundays at 7 p.m. ET and Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET over the next four weeks. The episodes will first air over a livestream on THE CHOSEN app and across social media before being available to stream on numerous sites.

Meanwhile, the show is continuing to film Season 5 of the show which follows the events of Holy Week.

Movieguide® previously reported:

The cast and crew of THE CHOSEN are excited to get back into the swing of things as filming for Season 5 begins.

“[Things] have gone remarkably well,” Jonathan Roumie said. “I arrived feeling like I don’t know how this is going to go, and praise God, it went really well. Day two [of filming] was even easier than day one, much lighter. We were able to have some time to kind of joke around a little bit.”

Even though it’s been over half a year since the cast wrapped filming for Season 4, they felt like they were able to quickly return to their characters and fall into their close relationships.

“I blinked by eyes, and I’m starting season five now. Has there been a break? I don’t know. It’s nice weather—that’s a first for THE CHOSEN,” Elizabeth Tabish said.

“I’m proud of how we’ve really settled into our familiarity with each other and our sense of family,” added Abe Bueno-Jallad. “A lot of things are shifting so quickly, and I’m allowing myself to be impacted by them because this just feels like such a different season.”
