Val Kilmer and Daughter Mercedes to Work Together in Upcoming Movie
By Cooper Dowd, Contributing Writer
Although Hollywood actor Val Kilmer’s battle with throat cancer makes his profession difficult, the 60-year-old is still making a mark in Hollywood.
His role in the upcoming movie PAYDIRT is a unique return to the screen as he acts alongside his 28-year-old daughter, Mercedes, who plays his daughter in the movie.
“Playing his daughter was so trippy and perfect,” Mercedes, 28, said in an interview on ‘Good Morning America.’ “I’m so proud to have been in this film and to have worked on this film like not just because my dad is my actual dad, but because…it really meant a lot to me to be able to be involved in this film that centers a disabled actor, or an actor with a disability.”
In his recent memoir, “I’m Your Huckleberry,” Kilmer shared his experience of battling throat cancer and undergoing a tracheotomy. Although there are particular challenges presented after a tracheotomy, the actor said that he feels much healthier than before.
“I’m doing great, I feel a lot better than I sound,” Kilmer said.
“It’s just like any other language or dialect,” he added. “You have to figure out a way to communicate that’s no different than any other acting challenge but it’s just a very unique set of circumstances.”
Additionally, Val Kilmer is reprising his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky opposite Tom Cruise in TOP GUN: MAVERICK, the highly anticipated sequel to TOP GUN (1986).
Kilmer also starred in 1998’s THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, which MOVIEGUIDE® awarded four stars for quality and +4 for content. The full review can be found here. Kilmer voiced Moses in the movie.
THE PRINCE OF EGYPT won the Epiphany Prize® at the Movieguide® Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry in 1999.
