As Gen Z leads a shocking return to the faith across America, experts explain why the younger generations seek the Lord more than older Americans.
“I think they’ve searched everywhere for truth and hope and the only hope they’re really gonna find is in Jesus Christ. There’s an army of young people rising up,” Unitus founder Tonya Prewett told Fox News’ Shannon Bream.

“We’ve witnessed huge growth in the number of adult converts and especially from a younger age bracket and a lot of that is, you know, in the post-COVID dispensation, folks are looking for more meaningful, purposeful enterprises,” added Father Gregory Pine. “So, money hasn’t really held up and honor, glory, fame hasn’t really held up and pleasure hasn’t held up. And so, they’re left with a kind of experience of emptiness but with an ongoing conviction that there is meaning and purpose to be found.”
A recent study from Barna highlights this truth, as Gen Z is now the adult age group that attends church the most. Gen Z adults attend church an average of 1.9 weekends per month, compared to the national average of 1.6 weekends per month across all American adults.
“The fact that young people are showing up more frequently [to church] than before is not a typical trend,” said Daniel Copeland, Barna’s Vice President of research. “It’s typically older adults who are the most loyal churchgoers. This data represents good news for church leaders and adds to the picture that spiritual renewal is shaping Gen Z and Millennials today.”
While this trend is atypical, it does not come as a surprise, given that Gen Z has been faith-curious for years. For example, a 2022 study from the American Bible Society found that 77% of all Gen Z adults were interested in scripture, and in 2023, the organization found that the Bible has changed half of all Gen Zers’ lives.
Meanwhile, many of the celebrities coming from this age group are outspoken about their faith, not only making it easier for their peers to take Christianity seriously but also inspiring the next generation to pursue their faith as well.
This overall acceptance of faith by the younger generations has led to multiple revival events across the county in recent years such as the Asbury revival in 2022 and the Charlie Kirk effect, which swept the nation at the end of 2025 after the TPUSA founder’s assassination.
It is amazing to see how the Lord is moving in our country and bringing millions of people back to Him, especially after atheism and New Age beliefs controlled our county for years.
