Why Tim Tebow Prioritizes Spiritual Training Over Physical Training

Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow explained why spiritual training takes priority over physical training on Christian Huff’s “4:8 Men’s Podcast.”

“I think of striving to be your best for God and for what you’re calling and for what people have for you,” Tebow answered when asked what he thinks of when he hears training physically and spiritually. “Why do we train? This is so important. It’s not that we train. It’s why we train. Why we train is important. Why do you train in sports? You train in sports because you have a goal, you have a dream, you have a vision, and you want to get from where you are to where you’re trying to be.”

“You want to get from where you are in that moment to maybe being the starting quarterback or maybe being able to win a championship or maybe be able to get a scholarship,” Tebow continued. “You have all these goals, and that’s why you go train right. You don’t just train to go buff at your body, right? You train so that you can one day get to a place. So, you can improve so that you might have the chance of being your best, right? So that’s why you go to these great lengths as athletes.”

At the end of the day, as believers, getting a scholarship or winning a championship is great, but it isn’t what we live for.

Tebow referenced 1 Timothy 4:8:

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

“What am I willing to do for something that actually really matters,” Tebow said. “Like the Great Commission. Like hurting people. Like the calling that God has on all of our lives. Like loving the least, the last, the lost. Like serving our church in the bigger church but also our personal churches. Like being able to encourage people as we go.”

Tebow uses his platform to help others. His foundation recently put on its Night to Shine event, “an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs, ages 14 and older.”

“This year’s event was hosted on February 9 by 725 churches across 56 countries including several hundred churches in the U.S.,” CBN reported.

“By God’s grace, we have seen Night to Shine act as a catalyst, we’ve seen thousands of people serve with us and help turn Night to Shine into a worldwide movement to share the message that every person with special needs inherently deserves to be celebrated, that they’re loved, and that their true identity is a child of God,” Tebow shared.

Movieguide® reported:

Tim Tebow’s annual global event, Night to Shine, takes place on Feb. 9, and the former NFL star can hardly wait.

On Jan. 31, he said on Instagram, “We are just 10 days away from the 10th anniversary of Night to Shine! It’s hard to pick 10 moments to share with y’all, but here’s a few to bring you some joy as we countdown to Feb 9.”

He shared clips from past Night to Shine events: a video of a joyful teenager getting crowned with a tiara, a boy entering a red carpet lined with people clapping for him and reels and photos of honored guests with Tebow and his wife, Demi.

“My hope and prayer for this year, as it is every year, is for every person with special needs to be celebrated, to know they’re loved, and to know their true identity as a child of God,” he said.
