How OVERCOMER Answered The Kendrick Brothers’ Prayers
By Allyson Vannatta, Staff Writer
Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick couldn’t be more thankful for the blessings God has provided for their movie, OVERCOMER, which is set for digital release this week.
“We prayed for it to be opened in 1,700 theaters and it opened in 1,723 and in 24 countries. We asked God for an A+ Cinemascore and it received that opening weekend and then earned an unexpected 98% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes (higher than their top 10 greatest movies of all time),” Stephen told The Christian Post. “We asked for lives to be changed and have heard of many salvations in theaters and 50 people coming to Christ after one screening in Tennessee.”
As Movieguide® previously reported:
“To hear that 50 people came to Christ in just one screening, and that churches were leveraging [the movie] for the Gospel, to hear people respond online that not only were they entertained by the film, but we see the responses that God spoke deeply to [them] about who [they are] in Christ, it’s everything we hoping would happen in the hearts of believers,” Stephen said. …
One viewer said, “I was totally blown away by this film. I totally was not expecting the impact it would have on me. I laughed. I was entertained, but God spoke to me deeply as I watched the movie. I realized I need to forgive some people who’ve hurt me. I began to study Ephesians 1 and 2.”
Stephen told CP that the brothers anticipate more people will see the movie because of the digital release and the upcoming DVD release just before Christmas.
The OVERCOMER Blu-ray, DVD and digital release will contain bonus material, deleted scenes, bloopers, exclusive commentary by the Kendrick Brothers and a look at the power of forgiveness.
In addition to the release of OVERCOMER, a DVD set containing six of the Kendrick Brothers’ most famous movies will hit the stands exclusively at Walmart starting Dec. 17.
