New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne met Jesus after getting drugged at a club in Miami, a story he recently shared on the “Sports Spectrum” podcast.

“I was partying, and some things happened to me, you know, something was in my drink. And it was kind of weird. I went to a spiritual realm. It was real serious, and I just kind of had an awakening in this moment,” Bourne told podcast host Matt Forte. “You know, I was under some substance for three days and three nights.”

Bourne was around people he loved and trusted, “people that I thought were influencing me the right way.” But he quickly realized these were the same people who spiked his drink.

“It was really the enemy, kind of grooming me my whole life. And my soul was kind of at a tipping point,” the wide receiver described. “I kind of encountered Jesus in the club. I was so into that lifestyle that I got carried away. And God was just kind of telling me, in that moment when I was under the substances — I’m like, ‘Dang God, like I took it this far, like I’m in deep’ — and He kind of just told me to choose. ‘Are you gonna live for Me, or are you going to live this lifestyle which leads to destruction and ultimately hell?'”

He continued: “I chose God. I’m just like, ‘Okay, God, if you get me out of this situation,’ because I could have been one of those players that died on the road of fentanyl, crashed in the car leaving the club, or whatever it was. That’s how much whatever I was on.”

If it weren’t for the grace of God, Bourne believes he wouldn’t be alive today.

“So it’s all grace of God that I’m here today, because that’s how big I think about it,” he said. “Once I got out of that situation, that’s when I kind of started pursuing Jesus, like seriously reading the Word. After that year, I changed my life. It was probably the hardest year after, you know. I thought it was going to be good, but it was my toughest year, so that was kind of my turning point and something that really changed me and put me where I am today.”

The athlete declares “CHRIST IS KING” in his Instagram bio and often uses his social media following to talk about his faith.

“The Creator Created us to Create!” he wrote in one post advertising his Christian apparel.

“Can’t do nothing unless GOD give that green light!” Bourne wrote in another post.

Bourne’s story reminds us that God will meet us even in our darkest moments. No matter where you are or what you’ve done, you’re never too far gone. God wants you to experience the life and freedom that are available through the death and resurrection of His son Jesus.
