SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller say the movie will stick to its summer 2027 release date.

“[We are] very confident,” the pair told Tech Radar of hitting the movie’s set launch date of June 18, 2027.

BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE has been plagued with delays — the movie was originally supposed to premiere March 29, 2024, and has been continually postponed. In 2026, Sony announced that BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE was premiering June 4, 2027, but almost immediately pushed it to June 25 then, shortly after, back up to its current release date of June 18.

“Having to take it apart to put it back together again was really, really [the] real thing that made it take longer,” Miller told i09 of the delays. “We put the most pressure on ourselves. There’s no one that puts more pressure on us than ourselves, wanting to outdo ourselves each time and see things that you haven’t seen before and make it feel like something you’ve never experienced before. And so, trying to get something that is as worthy as the previous two has been the driver.”

Lord added, “The main trick is to play free. And to have the whole team understand that their job is to try stuff. To make mistakes, to see where this could go. And I can report that they’re going hard. It’s so great.”

Little is known about BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE’s plot, but will presumably see main character Miles Morales — a.k.a. Spider-Man — facing another cross-dimensional crisis that he must fight with the help of his fellow Spider-people.

Shameik Moore (Miles) and Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen) have both been confirmed to reprise their roles, and it’s assumed that Jake Johnson (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Oscar Isaac (Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099), Nicholas Cage (Spider-Man Noir) and John Mulaney (Spider-Ham) will also return.

BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE’s directors, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, teased the movie’s plot, saying in a statement, “We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting. The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it. We’re bringing everything we’ve got.”

SPIDER-MAN fans, keep your fingers crossed that BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE sticks to its June 18, 2027, premiere date!
