THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie recently revealed that he was aware of Ramah’s storyline early on, dropping hints to viewers about her fate.
“So for me, this was one of the moments that I knew two seasons ago,” he said during an episode of THE CHOSEN’s “Aftershow” podcast. “And I started to drop little nuggets of that.”
Roumie pointed to an episode in Season 2, where Ramah’s father comes to visit and speak to Jesus.
“So they have a conversation, and then just before he leaves, he has a moment with Ramah,” the actor explained. “And then you see Jesus standing there, and obviously, Ramah’s father is not happy and he’s worried for her. And then there’s a moment where you see Jesus standing there, and at one point — because I know what’s going to happen. I didn’t know when, but I know it’s going to happen in the future, as Jesus — I kind of look up, and then it sort of changes my countenance slightly for the rest of that scene.”

Roumie acknowledged his movement was “almost imperceptible” but added, “You know something’s going on, but now when you see this, you can go back and be like, ‘oh, that’s when he knew.’”
The cast and crew of THE CHOSEN have previously weighed in on Ramah’s fate. Warning — spoilers ahead!
Ramah is killed in the third episode of Season 4 by Roman magistrate Quintus. Her death is particularly affecting, as Jesus does not heal or resurrect her.
“All of these things are in context,” the show’s creator, Dallas Jenkins, said in a recent livestream. “The story of Thomas and Ramah [the characters were betrothed] and what happened at the end of Episode 3 is absolutely, of course — I mean, we’ve been planning this since Season 1 — but it’s part of a larger narrative.”
Jenkins continued, “The disciples have the same questions you do and are struggling with the same things.”
In an interview with USA Today, Yasmine Al-Bustami, the actress who played Ramah, shared, “Ramah had always been this positive force, always encouraging Thomas to not be doubtful, to take a leap of faith. He’s going to continue, but without her influence. That’s going to have an impact. It hurts, but it’s a beautiful story.”
“I love seeing how Ramah has impacted people,” she continued. “It’s very humbling. It’s very nice to know especially when people share their personal stories of how Ramah might have affected their life or what she brings to the table for them.”
Fans were shocked by Ramah’s death, but the storyline was part of THE CHOSEN’s larger story, showing the disciples’ own struggles and doubts.
