THE TEN COMMANDMENTS will celebrate its 70th anniversary with special 4K screenings of the classic movie around the country.
“Celebrate 70 years of cinematic greatness with Retro Rewind as this epic returns to the big screen March 31-April 2,” a Facebook post from Golden Ticket Cinemas announced. “Experience the sweeping scale, unforgettable moments, and timeless storytelling the way it was meant to be seen — in a theater.”
If you can’t make it to a theater, never fear — THE TEN COMMANDMENTS will be available to watch on TV on ABC on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET. The 1956 classic is also available to rent on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango and Google Play.
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, starring Charlton Heston as Moses and Yul Brynner as Pharaoh, tells the story of how God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. It was directed by Cecil B. DeMille and went on to gross more than $65 million at the US box office. In today’s money, that’s almost $1 billion, making it one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
Speaking at the movie’s premiere, DeMille told the audience, “Ladies and gentlemen, this is not just a motion picture. It is a testament to the human spirit and the enduring power of faith.”
Heston’s son Fraser, a producer, director and writer, has also spoken about the lasting legacy of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.
“It’s the quintessential epic,” he said in a 2020 interview with Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “When you think spectacle, you think C.B. DeMille. When you think epic, you think THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. It’s a great story, isn’t it?”
Fraser was even part of the movie; in an interview with The New York Post, he shared, “[DeMille] heard my mom was pregnant and said, ‘Well, if it’s a baby boy, he can play the part of Moses.’ When I was born, the first telegram she got said, ‘Congratulations, he’s got the part. Love, C.B.’”
He also spoke about the impact working on THE TEN COMMANDMENTS had on Heston’s own faith.
“I think a lot of his faith actually came from making films like THE TEN COMMANDMENTS and BEN-HUR because he did a great deal of research,” Fraser told The Post. “He went back and reread all five books of Moses and did a lot of research with DeMille’s people, who gave him material. He became quite fascinated with — and obviously famous for — biblical ethics. As a consequence, I think it deepened his faith. I’d say his faith came from within.”
Whether you watch it in theaters or at home, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS is a great way to celebrate the upcoming Easter season!
