How This Country Star Keeps Her Faith Strong

Country star Anne Wilson explained how she keeps herself rooted in Christ despite the lure of fame and the busyness of her world.
“I grew up in a Christian home. I was raised in the church, and then I became a Christian when I was 12 years old, when I really experienced the presence of the Lord for the first time, and I realized that it wasn’t just religion but that it was about a relationship with the Lord; that He desires closeness and intimacy with us,” Wilson told Liberty University students. “We can have a full relationship with Him, and I think that’s when everything changed for me in that moment.”
That realization and growing of Wilson’s faith would keep her sane a few years later when her brother tragically passed away in a car accident the summer after her freshman year of high school.
“Whenever my brother passed, I started journaling, and I don’t know if anyone of y’all here has been through something like that, but if you have, you know it can almost feel like you’re not going to survive the loss,” Wilson said. “Like it felt like I didn’t know if I was going to make it. So I would journal every day, and at the end of the day, I would say, ‘Thank you, my Jesus, for getting me through another day.’ And it was kind of to prove to myself…I’m going to make it, I’m going to survive this.”
“When it came to dealing with the loss and tragedy of my brother I knew I couldn’t have survived that without [faith],” she told the Grammys. “As I started writing songs and moved to Nashville my faith quickly became everything to me.”

Now, as Wilson has become a world-famous artist, combining country with Christian music and is going on month-long tours, she continues to keep herself rooted in the word and values her relationship with the Lord over any type of worldly success.
“The country that we’re living in today, the world we’re living in, especially with social media, I think all of us are experiencing extreme levels of anxiety and even depression and identity crises and all the things of forgetting who we are in Christ,” she said. “And for me, what’s been my biggest inspiration and encouragement is being in scripture every single day.”
“That can be hard to do with my schedule being busy and all the things…but there’s something so special about getting in the word first thing in the morning with the Lord. Having quiet time with Him and just reminding myself who I am in Christ: that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” she continued.
“The best thing I’ve learned is just seek Jesus every single day,” Wilson added. “He will tell you where to go. He will guide your steps. He is all that truly matters. At the end of the day, He is the prize, He is the treasure, He is everything. And so, fix your eyes on Jesus and seek Him and He’s going to guide you.”

Wilson’s getting her fans in the Christmas spirit by posting clips of her Christmas songs on Instagram.
“For the lonely and the lost, there’s no sinner too far gone to find a Savior, lyin’ in the manger,” she sang in a clip of her song “The Manger” with Josh Turner.
“ I love this song ‘The Manger’ and the reminder of how Jesus came into the world in such a humble way. I hope you feel His peace and presence this month as we approach Christmas!” Wilson wrote.
