What You Need To Know:

ALMOST HUMAN is a low-budget slasher movie with a twist. In 1987, Mark is captured by aliens after he hears a disturbing, loud noise in his home. He’s reported missing. His friend, Seth, is blamed for his disappearance. Two years later, Seth begins to have nightmares and random nosebleeds. He believes these nosebleeds indicate Mark may be returning. He tries to convince Mark’s former girlfriend, Jen, but she doesn’t believe him. The town soon experiences a string of grisly murders. Mark, who appears fully human but is something else, gruesomely murders anyone who stands between him and his mission to create a new lifeform with his ex-girlfriend.

ALMOST HUMAN is an homage to Eighties-style slasher flicks, packed with gruesome violence, a simple storyline, and an alien-invasion twist. Despite some good acting, the camerawork is terrible, the writing and dialogue are predictable, and the plot is shallow and overly compressed. ALMOST HUMAN’s most abrasive qualities are its jarring violence and foul language. There are brutal images of torture, murder, and rape. ALMOST HUMAN is definitely abhorrent, to the point of being inhuman.

More Detail:

Set in rural Patten, Maine during the late 1980s, ALMOST HUMAN tells the story of a group of friends who experience a man’s murderous rampage after what appears to be an alien abduction. It’s an abhorrent, ultraviolent horror movie.

In 1987, Mark (Josh Ethier) is captured by aliens after he hears a disturbing and loud noise in his home. He’s reported missing. His friend, Seth (Graham Skipper), is blamed for Mark’s disappearance.

Two years later, Seth begins to have nightmares and random nosebleeds. He believes these nosebleeds may indicate Mark will be returning. He tries to convince his friend Jen (Vanessa Leigh), but she doesn’t believe him.

Patten soon experiences a string of grisly murders. Mark, who appears fully human but is something else, gruesomely murders several men and women who stand between him and his mission. That mission is to get to his former house, find Jen (with whom he once had a relationship), and start a new family of alien-human beings.

ALMOST HUMAN is an homage to 80’s-style slasher flicks, packed with gruesome violence, a simple storyline, and an alien-invasion twist. Its lone good quality is some decent acting. The main characters (especially Graham Skipper) do a convincing job in spite of sub-par writing. They delve into their roles well.

Despite the acting, ALMOST HUMAN is poorly done. The cinematography is terrible (several scenes have wobbly cameras), the writing and dialogue is very predictable, and the plot, though slightly unique, is shallow and overly compressed. Perhaps if the movie had the budget to be closer to the 100-minute mark, it may have had more opportunity for some plot and character development.

ALMOST HUMAN’s most abrasive qualities are its jarring violence and a graphic rape scene. There are brutal images of torture and murder, and a woman is raped by an alien-human being. ALMOST HUMAN is definitely abhorrent, to the point of being inhuman.
