As the fall lineup at CBS takes shape, NCIS received a set premiere date of Oct. 14, with the franchise officially taking over the Tuesday time slot from FBI.

“This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers,” President of CBS Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, said in May. “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”

NCIS along with spinoffs NCIS: ORIGINS and NCIS: SYDNEY will all air new episodes on Tuesday this fall, creating a three-hour “power hour” taking over from the FBI series.

“We’ve heard the audience, and we have stacked Tuesday,” Reisenbach explained. “There are higher PUT levels for Monday, and we feel this is a great counter-programming to sports and reality on the other networks.”

The fall will bring exciting programming for NCIS fans as the showrunners have teased that Season 23 will be the most character-focused set of episodes to date.

“We really want to get everybody in a big way. I know people always say, ‘I watch the show for the characters – that was always our thing – and I really want to make this a character-forward show in a way we haven’t seen before,” said executive producer Steve Binder. “So, if you’re invested in these people, this is going to be the season for you.”

Meanwhile, after ending the season with drama between the team, NCIS: ORIGINS will return for its second season, though the character lineup may not be the same as Season 1.

“The relationship between Gibbs and Lala is a unique and impactful one, and it’s one that we definitely want to highlight and see through to the end,” showrunner Gina Lucita Monreal told Screen Rant in February.

“I won’t officially say that Lala is dead, but certainly we went into this saying that we needed to give ourselves the wiggle room to take these big swings and do what we felt was right,” added showrunner David J. North.

Beyond cable TV, NCIS fans will also receive the much-anticipated NCIS: TONY AND ZIVA, which will release on Paramount+ on Sept. 4.

All in all, fans of the NCIS franchise have a very exciting fall coming as the show takes over Tuesday nights on CBS and continues its run as one of the most popular shows on television.
