Candace Cameron Bure recently opened up about times in her life when she felt a need to “decrease” her prayer life.

“I’ve had seasons in my life where I have felt so spiritually attacked by the enemy. I was like, ‘I need a break from the arrows, God,’” she said during an episode her podcast. “I’m like, ‘I’m exhausted, and I feel like I’m treading water…God, I need a break.’”

She explained, “I’ve never pulled away from God. I’ve never lost my faith, ever. But I’m like, ‘I don’t want to do this right now,’ and so my prayer life decreased a little.”

“I would talk to God about it, saying, ‘I know this is not what I’m supposed to do and shouldn’t do, but I also don’t know [how] else to handle it and I can’t handle the amount of arrows coming at me right now. So, if I pull away from you…the enemy won’t attack me so hard,’” Bure continued.

The clip was posted to Instagram, where fans shared their own experiences feeling a need to step back from their relationship with God and how they handled the situation.

“It’s so important that you said that out loud because then it frees us to say out loud and we can pray for one another!” one person commented

Another wrote, “This is so human. I totally agree. The closer we get to God and the harder we hold in the more we are attacked. It’s good because it shows that we are doing something right. But it is exhausting when it’s one punch after the other. I wouldn’t even say that we pull away to not get attached. But we are so emotionally and mentally drained that we check out. I always try to remind myself of all the times he allowed me to see him protecting me.”

Bure hopes to help people through these tough spiritual times in their own lives with her new book, 100 Days of Joy and Strength: A Daily Devotional Journey.

“This book is for people who feel alone in their struggles,” she told The Christian Post. “Life gives us challenges every day. It really is an encouragement to be able to just reset, renew our focus, and remind ourselves that God is with us. He never leaves us. He hears everything we talk to Him about.”

The FULL HOUSE actress also encourages followers to stand strong in their faith through social media. In a recent post, she shared Philippians 4:6-7 — “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

“In moments when the world feels especially heavy, I come back to this verse,” Bure wrote. “Prayer may not always change the circumstances right away, but it changes us as we lean into God’s presence, peace, and promises.”

Bure’s story is a reminder that, even when we feel like we might need to take a step back from God, He is always there for us.
