THE MIGHTY DUCKS hit the ice and silver screen again with a winner for the whole family. Emilio Estevez returns as Gordan Bombay and tells Duck captain, Charley, that he won’t return as Coach. Charley asks hard-nosed Ted Orion to take over now that the Ducks have joined the hockey state championship school, Eden Hall. Charley and the team feel abandoned by Gordon. Orion is demanding and unfriendly. The varsity doesn’t think that the ducks, now the JV team, are true Eden Hall Warriors, and pull countless pranks on them. Charlie is so fed up, he decides to quit the team. When Gordon enters once again, Charlie is encouraged to join again, submit to Orion’s rules and face their biggest challenge yet: playing the varsity in an exhibition match.
This formulaic, but crowd-pleasing movie has a little of everything: tender moments, big and little laughs, rivalry, romance, and of course hockey. Most of all, this movie teaches that teamwork and sticking it out, when things are rough, pays off. This movie is filled with quality morals and relevant themes for children. There are three mild obscenities and a boy tries unsuccessfully to look up a cheerleader’s skirt, but that is the extent of anything bad. D3: THE MIGHTY DUCKS is all that it is quacked up to be.
