FOREVER MY GIRL

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

FOREVER MY GIRL opens with a young blonde girl, Josie, left at the altar, while her fiancé, Liam, becomes a successful country music star. Eight years later, Liam finds out one of his best friends from high school has died. So, he returns to his hometown. There, he sees Josie and finds out she has had his daughter. Liam must now decide whether to stay and be present for his daughter, or continue living his selfish lifestyle.

FOREVER MY GIRL is entertaining, but it does have some flaws, including a slow middle. In fact, the writers forgot to add jeopardy in the middle and instead resolve some key plot elements closer to the beginning. However, the acting is well done, as is the music. Even better, FOREVER MY GIRL has a strong, positive Christian worldview extolling forgiveness, mercy and family. Josie must learn to forgive while Liam must learn to become more selfless and responsible. FOREVER MY GIRL also contains multiple church scenes, preaching and reading from the Book of Psalms. That said, caution is advised for older children for thematic reasons.

More Detail:

FOREVER MY GIRL opens with a young blonde woman, Josie being left at the altar, while her fiancé Liam goes on to become a very successful country music artist. Eight years later, tragic circumstances bring them back together. FOREVER MY GIRL has a strong, positive Christian worldview about forgiveness, it lags a bit in the middle, which could use more jeopardy.

As the movie opens, Josie is excited to get married, but when she finds out her fiancé has left her at the altar, she’s crushed.

Eight years later, her former fiancé, Liam, has become an extremely popular country star. Liam has been living a hedonistic life of excessive drinking and sleeping with women, among other things. This immoral lifestyle has led to depression.

Liam learns that one of his best friends from high school, who was a groomsman in his wedding that never happened, has died in an accident. This tragic news distresses Liam, so he pays his driver to take him to his home town rather than going to his concert. Once he arrives, he sits outside the church to hear the eulogy and runs into Josie, who is with a little girl.

Later, Liam goes to the flower shop where Josie works to talk with her. She, of course, isn’t happy to see him, but her daughter arrives, and Liam finds out her daughter’s name is Billy, Liam’s mother’s name. Realizing Billy is actually his own daughter, Liam is shocked but excited.

Knowing that he has a daughter, will Liam be the man he needs to be for the family, or will he continue living a selfish life? Will Josie take Liam back into her life and forgive him for leaving her?

FOREVER MY GIRL is an entertaining movie, but it does have some flaws, including a slow middle. In fact, the writers forgot to add jeopardy in the middle of the movie and resolve some key plot elements closer to the beginning. Unrealistically, the main character forgives the other character very early in the story, after which there’s no purpose to the movie continuing. Though this is the case, the acting is well done, as is the music.

Even better, FOREVER MY GIRL has a strong Christian, biblical worldview about forgiveness, mercy and family. Josie has to learn to forgive for the better of the family, while Liam has to learn to become selfless and responsible. Though it’s important to forgive others for what they have done, we must strive and pray to not make the same mistakes over and over again. It is painful and saddening when a family is broken up because one member abandons their family to follow their own dreams. While the main character makes this mistake, the end of FOREVER MY GIRL affirms family in an inspiring way. That said, caution is advised for older children.
