Great American Family knocks it out of the park again with this “Christmas romance meets Old Hollywood” spectacular, ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS WISH. A small-town mayor revisits his childhood Christmas wish list. He discovers a deeper meaning of Christmas and a rekindled appreciation for his community.
Meanwhile, a real estate tycoon has plans to turn the town into something more modern, trendy, and corporate. With the help of his childhood sweetheart, the mayor must find a way to bring in more revenue to save his special town.
ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS WISH opens with schoolchildren singing “Silent Night”. There is plenty of delightful singing, dancing and Christmas cheer. There are a few light kisses. This holiday movie is a win!
Mayor Brian Ortega is a life-long resident of Long Grove. He has all the right lines, and the perfect demeanor of a well-meaning politician. When an elementary student, Joey, interviews Brian for the school newspaper, it’s evident the Mayor has lost sight of what makes his town special.
While at the school, Brian recovers the Christmas wishes he had written long ago. In good faith, and with some coaxing, he drops his elementary school wish list into Santa’s mailbox. The magic of Christmas ensues as his wishes begin to come true. He even thinks he’s having conversations with Santa.
Right before a town meeting, Brian’s staff alerts him there are major budget problems. An overly ambitious and opportunistic real estate investor proposes a drastic modernization of the town. Overcome with a new sense of Christmas spirit, Brian announces that the town will hold a Christmas festival to make up for the deficit. Brian’s life becomes even more merry when he reconnects with his childhood sweetheart, Nina, who’s visiting from the big city.
However, things take a turn for the worse when the festival fails to stir interest from the town residents. Brian begins to think he’s the only one who wants to protect his small community. He’s forced to re-consider the approval for a modernization project. Nina assures him she will fight with him to save their town, but it may not be enough.
