STRIKING DISTANCE

What You Need To Know:

In STRIKING DISTANCE, a policeman chases a serial killer that he believes murdered his father. The acting is mediocre and the direction predictable, and there is a lot of violence against women, making us fearful whenever a woman appears on the screen. The filmmakers thus exploit both women and violence in the movie.

Content:

(H, LLL, VVV, SS, A, M) Humanism; approximately 60 obscenities & 10 profanities; psychotic serial killer attacks, tortures & kills numerous women (the killings take place off screen); multiple fist fights, shootings & violent car chases; fornication between unmarried adults; alcohol abuse; and, plots of revenge & police corruption.

More Detail:

STRIKING DISTANCE, a film directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Bruce Willis, is yet another film about a deranged serial killer and a cop who sacrifices his career to catch him. While the filmmakers try to jazz up their version of this tired plot with an unusual setting and dysfunctional family relationships, it is not enough to overcome the cliches of the genre and a predictable ending. A detective in trouble with his department seeks to find a psychotic serial killer who murders young, beautiful Caucasian women, and also kills the detective’s father. Despite ostracism from the police department, detective Hardy pursues and gets the serial killer, and ends up being vindicated by his department.

This is a very violent and disturbing movie. The acting is mediocre and the direction predictable. There is a lot of violence against women, and the filmmakers exploit both women and violence and show no true empathy for the lives of the people who are killed. This film, like many other thrillers, does not give us any great insights into fallen humanity, but rather seems to enjoy making us squirm by using violence as an entertainment. Films like STRIKING DISTANCE should be avoided, since they bring us one step closer to a completely desensitized society–one devoid of love and of God.
