What You Need To Know:
THE NIGHT FLIER is a dark and oppressive movie, focusing on a tabloid called INSIDE VIEW and its reporters, who desire to catch a serial killer at any cost. Mr. Morrison, the managing editor, is only concerned about getting the story - the more sensational and bizarre the better. Richard Dees, reporter and photographer, is a very hostile man. He is only concerned about getting his name on the front page. The “new kid on the block,” Katherine Blair, is ambitious. Dees and Blair compete for the story and discount the danger they face. In the meantime, the Night FLIER , as they call the killer, continues slashing, decapitating and ripping people apart.
Viewing this movie, the question arises why it needed so many killings to emphasize the lack of integrity that exists in the field of journalism. This point could have been conveyed in other creative ways. The characters are caricatured as their maliciousness and disregard for human life is portrayed. This movie has absolutely no redeeming value. The audience is subjected to continuous graphic and violent scenes that are unnecessary and unwarranted. THE NIGHT FLIER crashes!

More Detail:
THE NIGHT FLIER is a dark, oppressive movie, focusing on a tabloid publishing company called INSIDE VIEW and its reporters, who desire to catch a serial killer at any cost. Mr. Morrison, the managing editor, is just concerned about getting the story – the more sensational and bizarre the better. Richard Dees, reporter and photographer, has lived as a very detached, hostile man with a tough life. He is only concerned about getting his name and story on the front page. The “new kid on the block,” Katherine Blair, is ambitious and wants to become part of the action. She tries to be friendly toward Dees, but he is only insulting and venomous towards her. His only words of wisdom to her are “never believe what you publish and never publish what you believe.” This will come back to haunt him. Both Dees and Blair compete for the story about a vicious killer.
Early in the movie, a serial killer commits a violent murder. From this point, the violence becomes more graphic and bloody at the hands. The murderer is aptly named the Night Flier by Dees because of his pattern of flying into desolate airports at night in a black Cessna Skymaster 337. He is also referred to as the vampire because of the black cloak that always envelopes him and the sizable holes he leaves in his victim’s bodies.
Both Dees and Blair get caught up into getting this story first and discount the danger they face. Dees even tricks Blair at one point so that he can get the story. In the meantime, the night flier continues slashing, decapitating and ripping people apart, and he warns Dees to stay away.
Viewing this movie, the question arises why it needed so many killings to emphasize the lack of integrity that exists in the field of journalism. This point could have been conveyed in many other ways. The characters are caricatured as their maliciousness and disregard for human life is plays out. Squealing in delight at the attention this story is getting, Mr. Morrison excitedly comments, “Boy I hope he kills more people.”
This movie has absolutely no redeeming value. The audience is subjected to continuous graphic and violent scenes that are unnecessary and unwarranted. As the movie progresses, one keeps hoping that this story will have some positive quality. However, that moment never comes.
At a time when the mass media of entertainment have such a tremendous impact on our society, it is disappointing to view a movie such as this one. It delivers all the blood and gore without any uplifting message or lesson to be learned. It appears to depend on the audience getting a thrill out of watching people getting massacred without any mystery, suspense or plot. It also leaves several situations without explanation or understanding. THE NIGHT FLIER crashes!
