UNLIMITED

In UNLIMITED, Simon Orwell is an extremely smart student from MIT who travels to Mexico to deliver a device he developed with his old professor. As soon as he crosses the border, his car is run off the road, and he’s chased by a gunman. He nearly escapes with his life and takes refuge at an orphanage run by an American scientist name Harold Finch.

Harold explains that he was friends with Simon’s old professor, who is now dead. Although it was declared a natural death, some suspect it was murder due to the value of the machine he was developing. The machine would create unlimited energy, which would revolutionize the world, but in the wrong hands, it could also hurt people. The key component is Simon’s part.

Simon is introduced to Pedro and Sofia, siblings who grew up at Harold’s orphanage. They take a liking to Simon and try to convince him to stay and help, but Simon wants nothing to do with the problem. Because his passport was destroyed, he’s forced to stay in Mexico until a new one is issued. In the meantime, he helps out around the orphanage all the while trying to keep his troubled past hidden.

When a friend from the government brings the professor’s device to the orphanage, Harold convinces Simon to pass the time by trying to fix the device. Little do they know is that the man chasing Simon and the mystery behind the professor’s death are part of a dangerous plot to get the device. Will they succeed? Will Simon be able to overcome his broken past?

UNLIMITED is an exciting, heartwarming movie. There are some plot points that don’t quite fit correctly, but the movie still holds the viewers interest, especially at the climax. The production quality isn’t diminished by the movie’s limited budget in the least. Though the video does lack a cinematic look and feel, the visuals are engaging enough.

Pedro, played by Robert Amaya (COURAGEOUS, OCTOBER BABY), provides some great laughter to UNLIMITED while Daniel Owens, who plays Simon, gives great depth and seriousness to the role. Harold Finch is the moral compass of the movie. He helps those around him make the right choices. He unashamedly shares not only the love of Jesus, but also the message of the Gospel. The movie’s Christian, Biblical worldview is clear and obvious. It hardly takes away from the story’s pacing. The only content issues are some light fighting, a drug subplot, and two light profanities that sound more reverent than dishonoring. Overall, UNLIMITED is a fun adventure with a great Christian message.
