SISTER ACT II: BACK IN THE HABIT

Content:

(C, L) Overall, positive Christian worldview marred by roughly 13 obscenities, 1 profanity and some minor innuendoes.

Summary:

In SISTER ACT II, Sister Mary Clarence and her "fellow" nuns work on converting some potential delinquents from St. Francis High School into happy, diligent students. Regrettably, there are a few borderline foul words and one profanity uttered by the contemptible school administrator. Even so, the film contains some outstanding musical numbers and clearly communicates the love of God, the value of hard work and the need to acquire Christian virtues--messages that every teenager and adult needs to hear. In its own joyous way, SISTER ACT II may bring some wayward soul to Jesus Christ.

Review:

Joyous, foot-stomping music that lifts the heart characterizes SISTER ACT II, the much-awaited sequel to SISTER ACT, as Sister Mary Clarence, alias Delores (Whoopi Goldberg), and her “fellow” nuns work (this time) on converting some potential delinquents from St. Francis High School into happy, diligent students. The nuns persuade night-club singer Delores to leave Las Vegas and help them at the San Francisco school of St. Francis where the students would rather do anything than study. In time, Sister Mary Clarence gets her music class’s attention. They become a choir and practice for the state competition, despite some obstacles that could spoil everything.
SISTER ACT II contains some outstanding musical numbers such as “His Eye is on the Sparrow” and “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.” The acting is also commendable with Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith both convincing in their reprisals. Regrettably, there are a few borderline foul words and one profanity uttered by the contemptible school administrator. Even so, commendably, there is very little to object to in this movie, and it clearly communicates the love of God, the value of hard work and the need to acquire Christian virtues–messages that every teenager and adult needs to hear. In its own joyous way, SISTER ACT II may bring some wayward soul to Jesus Christ.
