What You Need To Know:
LEO GRANDE is shocking, particularly because Emma Thompson, who plays Nancy, has developed a lengthy career playing appealing characters who rarely engage in immoral behavior. Her switch to a sex-driven woman is disappointing, to say the least. As Leo, Daryl McCormack matches up well with the two-time Oscar winner in a movie mostly focusing on just the two of them in extremely limited settings. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE is immoral, abhorrent pagan trash from start to finish.
Content:
Very strong pagan worldview with an extreme sexual, hedonistic focus and the use of a sex worker, plus religion and traditional morals are mocked in one joke
10 obscenities (including four “f” words) and no profanities, plus the word “whore” is used once, “sluts” is said five times, and constant graphic sexual talk about all manner of illicit sexual activity and positions
No violence
Implied and explicit scenes involving oral sex, discussion of oral sex and other sex acts, a couple sex scenes fade out before they get graphic, a final meeting between the lead woman and the sex worker/gigolo has highly graphic depictions of numerous sexual positions, and two scenes show a woman masturbating, one implied and one depicted
Male is seen throughout sitting in only his boxers, woman is frequently shown with bra and panties, but later the man’s bare buttocks are seen, and the final bouts of sex show full nudity, with the woman ending in a full frontal lengthy shot as she looks at herself in a mirror
The characters use alcohol to loosen the woman’s inhibitions multiple times
No smoking or drugs; and,
Repeated conversations tout sensual pleasure as the highest of human pursuits, and marriage is discussed negatively at several points.
More Detail:
Nancy Stokes (Emma Thompson) is a 55-year-old widow who’s never had an orgasm, having endured a long-term marriage where her husband never tried to meet her desires. She hires Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack), a sex worker, gigolo in his 20s, to help her try all the positions she’s fantasized about and hopefully attain her ultimate goal.
At first, Nancy is extremely awkward and shy. So, their first two meetings wind up only having lots of talk about sex and the personal lives and pasts of Leo and Nancy. However, as Nancy becomes more comfortable with Leo, their final two meetings are packed with implied and also graphic sex and complete nudity from both protagonists.
LEO GRANDE is shocking, particularly because Emma Thompson has developed a lengthy career centered on appealing characters who rarely if ever engage in immoral behavior. Her switch to a sex-driven woman who constantly utters sexual terms is disappointing to say the least. As Leo, Daryl McCormack shows good acting chops in the rare dialog scenes that aren’t sexual in nature. It’s clear he’s a solid performer, matching up well with two-time Oscar winner Thompson in a movie that almost completely focuses on just the two of them in extremely limited settings.
With its utterly pagan philosophy of pursuing sexual pleasure at all costs, GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE is a trashy movie about lust that glamorizes prostitution to boot. It’s seriously immoral and abhorrent from start to finish and should be avoided by everyone with an ounce of decency or wisdom.
