After ending NCIS: SYDNEY Season 2 with a mystery encounter, Blue’s future at the agency seems to come to an end during the premiere of Season 3, though many of her co-workers are convinced something is not right.

“As we know, the end of the second season of NCIS: SYDNEY ends with Blue coming home after Darwin, and there is a strange lady sitting in her living room, and from the expression on Blue’s face, it’s pretty clear that she’s an unwelcome visitor,” said showrunner Morgan O’Neill. “And then we open in Season 3, Blue’s no longer there, and we work out that she’s resigned and everyone’s a little bent out of shape by it because she’s such a beloved member of the team.”

“It feels, especially to Doc, that something’s hinky, that this is not the way Blue would’ve departed if she departed of her own volition. And so he refuses to accept that she has simply decided to move on and send in a video resignation,” O’Neill continued. “And he’s probably, I dare say, right to think that that doesn’t all add up…And when we get to episode 2, we’ll realize why.”

Many fans are surely interested in who this mysterious woman was and how her appearance ties into Blue’s resignation. While O’Neill revealed everything is not as it seems, he has also hinted in the past that Season 3 will introduce new characters – some of whom may have even more to do with Blue’s story.

“There will be a couple of new characters coming along in Season 3,” O’Neill said in July. “The new characters that will arrive will in a lot of ways further the idea of the past coming back to haunt you, not in any kind of obvious way, but they’ll take our characters down the rabbit hole. And I suppose the question is, will they all make it back?”

According to O’Neill, fans will begin to get more answers next Tuesday, when the next episode of the show releases.

Taking over the the FBI series, CBS has made Tuesdays a full blown NCIS night this season, with NCIS, NCIS: ORIGINS and NCIS: SYDNEY releasing new episodes every week back-to-back-to-back.

“We’ve heard the audience, and we have stacked Tuesday,” then CBS president Amy Reisenbach said, per Deadline, adding, “there are higher PUT levels for Monday, and we feel this is a great counter-programming to sports and reality on the other networks.”

Fans of NCIS: SYDNEY have waited a long time to learn what is next for Blue, and they should have a much clearer picture of her future in the coming weeks as her team digs deeper into her seemingly forced resignation.
