THE HILLS HAVE EYES II

What You Need To Know:

THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 is a sequel to a remake. The story tells about a community of mutant cannibals living in an old atom bomb test site in a desert mountain area who prey on lost travelers. In this movie, a group of National Guard soldiers carrying supplies is sent to a scientific encampment set up by the Army near the test site. When the soldiers get there, everyone is missing. The soldiers are picked off one by one by the cannibals, who live in old abandoned mines under the mountains. The surviving soldiers have to go into the mines to retrieve a female soldier, who has been kidnapped.

Except for its gore and mutant cannibal motif, THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 plays less like a horror movie and more like an action thriller about a group of naïve soldiers battling an experienced mountain guerrilla force. The soldiers are pretty well delineated from one another, but the mutants have little personality, so the movie's jeopardy is mostly a physical threat. All that said, this movie contains excessive amounts of gore and very strong foul language, and a rape scene.

Content:

(H, PC, B, LLL, VVV, SS, NN, M) Light humanist worldview with a mostly implied politically correct subtext that critiques the way the Army is fighting the Iraq War and where one soldier accuses President Bush of lying while his sergeant says that all presidents after Truman have been liars so get over it, plus a moral element where one soldier convinces another soldier that they should go back to save a comrade; at least 165 obscenities (including many "f" words), 10 strong profanities and four light profanities; extreme bloody violence at times includes man's arm torn off, man's head bashed in with rock multiple times, people shot, briefly depicted and much implied cannibalism with bloody body parts, man speared, man shot in head and brain exposed, bloody birthing scene, rape, etc.; briefly depicted and strongly implied rape, two women tied up by mutant cannibals (one woman with her top off in one scene) and gross kissing scene that is too offensive to describe; upper female nudity during the introductory birth scene and upper male nudity; no alcohol; no smoking; and, kidnapping.

Except for its gore and mutant cannibal motif, THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 plays less like a horror movie and more like an action thriller about a group of naïve soldiers battling an experienced mountain guerrilla force. The soldiers are pretty well delineated from one another, but the mutants have little personality, so the movie’s jeopardy is mostly a physical threat. All that said, this movie contains excessive amounts of gory body parts and very strong foul language. There is also a strongly implied rape scene. This abhorrent scene is gratuitous rather than graphically explicit.
