THE CHOSEN star Jonathan Roumie recently gave an update on Instagram, revealing what it’s been like to film Jesus’ death and talking about a new Bible reading plan on the Hallow app.

“It’s been the hardest summer of my life…and it’s not over! It’s still going,” Roumie said in an Instagram update, referring to filming the crucifixion scene in the upcoming Season 6 of THE CHOSEN. “I want to thank you — each and every one of you — for all the prayers, the thousands and thousands I’ve received while I’ve been out from THE CHOSEN.”

He thanked fans for the birthday wishes — he turned 51 on July 1. He also read Matthew 4, which reveals when the Devil tried to tempt Jesus.

“I’m still in the midst of filming some of the most intense and spiritually demanding scenes we’ve ever done, but I wanted to take a moment to personally invite you to join me for something very close to my heart,” he wrote in the caption.

“Starting today, I’ll be walking through all four Gospels in 30 days on the @hallowapp. It’s a chance to sit with scripture, to pray, to reflect, anddd, if you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to hear me read the Bible, well… here’s your opportunity,” the actor wrote. “😊 Go to hallow.com/jonathan for your free trial to join us!”

THE CHOSEN star asked his fans to pray for him and the cast as they continue to film emotionally heavy scenes for Season 6.

“We can feel the spiritual weight of it all, and your prayers mean everything,” Roumie said. “God bless you always. 🙏✝️”

THE CHOSEN creator, Dallas Jenkins, said of the upcoming season, “There’s some pain this season, but Jesus also kicks a little butt before season six. [It’s] mixed in with some really beautiful intimacy.”

Jenkins said the crucifixion scene won’t be all that family-friendly, because the show wouldn’t be an “authentic” portrayal of Jesus’ life if it were.

“We’ve had five seasons of emotional connection, and so when you get to the crucifixion, I don’t need to do a lot of physicality and violence to get the point across. So we’ll still do some of that, but it won’t be quite as explicit as Mel’s,” he said, referring to Mel Gibson’s THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.

The release date for Season 6 is not yet finalized, but its finale will premiere exclusively in theaters on March 12, 2027, Deadline reported. The theatrical releases of Seasons 3, 4 and 5 grossed over $140 million across 55 territories.
