NCIS just announced the premiere date for its 23rd season. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming episodes.

“We really want to get to everybody in a big way,” NCIS showrunner Steven D. Binder told TV Line of the new season. “I know people always say, ‘I watch the show for the characters’ — that was always our thing — and I really want to make this a character-forward show in a way we haven’t seen before. So, if you’re invested in these people, this is going to be the season for you.”

Season 23 will premiere Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 8/7c, returning to its original time slot after moving to Mondays starting in Season 19.

NCIS was one of nine shows that CBS chose to renew, with CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach saying in a statement, “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”

Stars Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, Rocky Carroll and Gary Cole are all expected to return.

No official description of Season 23 has been released yet, but it’s assumed NCIS agent Alden Parker will be dealing with the aftermath of the loss of a loved one.

“He’s going to be destabilized and he’s going to be out for revenge and out for blood in a way that it will seem very atypical for someone like him, not a way you’d expect a character like him to behave and yet entirely motivated and justified,” Binder told TV Insider. “We had some precedent in the past in our show with this. Gibbs was a man on fire when his wife and daughter were killed. Bishop was a woman on fire when someone was attempting to kill Torres. We’re going to see some of that.”

Binder also promised plenty of drama for the rest of the characters, sharing, “We’re really hoping to dive into our characters and their lives and their journeys and their pain in a way that we have not done before — or have done before, but have done it more in a back burner secondary to the crime of the week.”

NCIS fans can’t wait to see what happens next for their favorite characters in Season 23!
