MY DATE WITH DREW

"Fulfilling Childhood Dreams"

What You Need To Know:

MY DATE WITH DREW is a different kind of documentary. The basic idea for MY DATE WITH DREW is simple. With help from two buddies, aspiring, out of work Jewish filmmaker Brian Herzlinger decides to take $1,100 in winnings from a game show and make a documentary. The movie will document his quest to get a date with actress Drew Barrymore, on whom he has had a crush ever since he saw her in E.T. when he was six. Brian only has 30 days in which to win his date with Drew. That's when he must return the expensive camera he purchased on credit at Circuit City.

MY DATE WITH DREW is hilariously charming. Brian's engaging personality makes the movie work. Regrettably, although there are some references to miracles happening, Brian visits a psychic fortune teller, whose predictions seem to come true. Thus, MY DATE WITH DREW contains strong occult content, something which the Bible explicitly condemns in Deut. 18:9-14. MY DATE WITH DREW also focuses on pursuing personal dreams without mentioning the need to seek God's will in such matters by consulting God's Word, the Bible. Therefore, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.

Content:

(Pa, OO, C, B, Ro, LL, N, A, M) Mixed pagan worldview with strong occult content where a visit to a psychic using cards to tell fortunes results in occult predictions coming true, plus some references to miracles (including an important visit to The Miracle Grill in New York City, which has a Christian Cross in its logo) (the protagonist is Jewish) and some Romantic, idealized notions of boldly pursuing your dreams; four light profanities, one Jesus profanity and 17 light exclamatory profanities; no violence; no sex, but protagonist's mother who reads a tabloid calls one celebrity a "slut"; upper male nudity when man is self-conscious about his hirsute body; alcohol use; no smoking; and, people fake press cards to get into celebrity movie party, gullible woman reads spurious tabloid and man pays for video camera on credit with intention of returning it in 30 days under store's no-questions-asked 30-day return policy.

More Detail:

The word inspirational has several meanings, as MOVIEGUIDE® has learned when trying to pick the moist inspirational movies of the year annually. MY DATE WITH DREW is a very inspirational movie, and was recently marketed to Christians at the Christian Booksellers convention, but it is not inspirational in the Christian sense, which usually means that the movie is morally and spiritually uplifting, as well as biblically sound. Instead, MY DATE WITH DREW is inspirational in a psychological and vocational sense. As such, it will inspire many of those who see it, not just Christians, to pursue their own dreams.

Through it all, Brian is inspired by Miss Barrymore’s own words, “If you don’t take risks, you’ll have a wasted soul.”
