More Detail:

IMAGINARY CRIMES is Sonya Weiler’s account of her father’s obsession with the pursuit of the American Dream. At the expense of depriving his family of security, love and affirmation, Ray concentrates on gaining material wealth. Sonya and her sister, Greta, long for the love of their deceased mother but turn to each other for solace, not finding any in their father. Sonya keeps a journal which is read by her writing class teacher who encourages her to refine her talent. Ray’s faulty business decisions cause his investors catch up with him, and he is arrested for fraud. Ray runs to avoid the law. When Greta and Sony refuse to go he abandons them. When he returns, he turns himself in to the authorities and acknowledges he has let his daughters down.

IMAGINARY CRIMES is a so-so attempt at depicting a father who loses everything only to discover his true treasure lies with his family. However, it is packaged in a depressing wrapping. It reveals what can happen when obsession with money and prominence replace the more important values in life, especially when a family is involved. This depressing movie contains no violence or sexual immorality but does contain foul language and gives irreverent lip-service to Christianity.
