Deion Sanders has never doubted God, even though he’s undergone 16 surgeries in the last three years.
“I’m in here 16 times in the last three years in the same position, never doubting God, never stressing, never second-guessing,” Sanders said in a video posted by his son that sees the coach prepping for surgery.
The video also shows Sanders talking with his team before his surgery.
“You guys know I’ve had a battle this off-season with cancer, and I know that each and every one of us in here has had someone — from a friend perspective, family perspective — somebody that has been ridiculed or attacked and devastated by cancer,” he said.

Sanders revealed his battle with bladder cancer over the summer, undergoing surgery to remove his bladder.
“Wow, I am truly blessed for the abundance of well wishes, for all the thoughts and all of the prayers. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!” he wrote back in June after sharing he was dealing with a then undisclosed health concern. “I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so. God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to glorify God, so please believe God got me! I’m excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder, you will be updated on everything. Until then, I’M COMING, BABY.”
Even though Sanders continues to work on his health and reminds his players to do the same on and off the field, he knows he can keep fighting because of his relationship with God.
“Stop doubting GOD & doubting yourself! GOD is incredible, consistent, faithful & kind,” he wrote in a post on Instagram. “You have the same attributes, but you’re not consistent. You’re inconsistent because you allow your emotions to influence your decisions. Change that & other things will change!”
In another post, Sanders wrote, “Trust God always regardless of what the situation is, the circumstances say and the people that believe both. Doubt and faith don’t get along with one another. Exercise your faith and watch God handle his business.”
“Why are you so worried? Why do you wanna give up? Champions and winners don’t give up and they don’t give in. They apply pressure on the opposition and look the enemy in the eyes and tell them, let’s do this! You’re not a loser, you’re a WINNER! Let’s go, baby,” the football coach wrote in another post.
Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes will face off against the 22nd-ranked Iowa State at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday.
