Faith gets country star Reba McEntire through each day.
“I don’t know how I would get through the day without my faith,” she recently told Esquire. “It’s there to celebrate with me, and it’s there to help me get back on my feet when something really horrible happens.”
McEntire also spoke about her childhood, sharing, “I grew up on a working cattle ranch, eight thousand acres. [My sisters] Alice, Susie, and I were expected to do the work Pake, our brother, did. The only difference was when we got through with our chores, we had to go and do the women’s chores, help Mama cook and clean up, while Pake got to watch TV.”
She also joked about the first time she knew she was funny.

“I told Mama a joke one time and she laughed. And I went, ‘I want to do that again!’ But I had to wait, because I didn’t want to push my luck. I mean, you work on a cattle ranch, it’s not fun — if you’re over here laughing and hee-hawing and then the cattle take off, you’ve lost half a day of work.”
McEntire gets plenty of opportunities to exercise her funny bone on the set of her sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE. Season 2 will be full of exciting guest stars, including many of McEntire’s REBA co-stars.
“The first time we went into a table read, it was very nostalgic,” she told PEOPLE of reuniting with REBA’s cast and crew. “It was very emotional. I mean, see, I’m getting choked up right now. That’s the way it was for all of us to be so blessed. If you get one really good sitcom that lasts for six seasons, you think, ‘Man, I’ve got the golden ring. That’ll be it. Probably never do it again, because that’s magic in a bottle.’ We got it again and we realize it.”
McEntire continued, “It’s a lot of fun and we already know each other’s bad habits and good habits, what we like, what we don’t. So it’s real easy to step in back into that with the crew. You love people you get to work together with that you’ve worked with before. It’s just so much easier than starting over.”
Another guest star? Rex Linn, McEntire’s fiancé! The couple recently announced their engagement after five years of dating.
“It happened a few months ago and they are very happy,” a source close to the couple told EPOPLE.
HAPPY’S PLACE Season 2 premieres Nov. 7.
