When the world left former Disney Channel star David Henrie empty, he turned to God and found the fulfillment and peace he needed.
“I think I felt what a lot of young people, young men, are feeling right now is that the world is just leaving you wanting. It’s a famous Augustine quote: ‘Our heart is restless until it rests in thee, oh Lord.’ And as someone who had no religion on the horizon, my heart was so restless. And I think that’s what a lot of young people are experiencing in the world right now…” Henrie told Fox News. “And I think we’re finding the world wanting and charging in the opposite direction and we’re finding our home in the church, ultimately. My story is indicative of millions out there.”
“Young people don’t want a cool, modern Catholicism. Young people want, like, Lord of the Rings Catholicism,” he added, explaining why orthodox traditions are surging. “They want, like, other worldly old school bells, smells, traditions. They want to feel like they’re stepping away from the world and getting into something that has roots and is eternal.”
As Henrie has devoted himself to the Lord, he has not only found peace for his restless heart but also sees his work changed by his fulfillment in Christ.
“Being a man of faith, it causes me to constantly make my work and life about more than myself. And it encourages me because, you know, I think selfishness is opposed to faith,” he previously explained. “It encourages me to be more about making things for others, doing things for others, trying to be good to my neighbor and my family. Especially with the content we’re making, to do it for the good of the other person and to make it positive and to make it uplifting.”
As Henrie alluded to, millions of young people are following a similar path as they find the world empty. Social media and access to the internet gave them access to the things of this world from a young age, allowing Americans to find out earlier and earlier just how worthless they are.
Gen Z is leading the charge back to faith with a recent study finding 77% of all Gen Z adults are interested in scripture.
“We’ve witnessed huge growth in the number of adult converts and especially from a younger age bracket and a lot of that is, you know, in the post-COVID dispensation, folks are looking for more meaningful, purposeful enterprises,” Father Gregory Pine told Shannon Bream. “So, money hasn’t really held up and honor, glory, fame hasn’t really held up and pleasure hasn’t held up. And so, they’re left with a kind of experience of emptiness but with an ongoing conviction that there is meaning and purpose to be found.”
Praise the Lord for the way He is turning the country back toward Him. May millions more Americans realize that He is the only thing that can truly satisfy their hearts and give peace to their restless lives.
