Following his WWE retirement, John Cena is focusing on helping his family and friends out financially.
“I came up in an environment where everyone around me was in debt, no one was well off, and nobody taught anybody,” he told PEOPLE. In fact, he lived in his car before his WWE career took off, so now he shows others how to live with financial freedom.
“I had coffee with one of my brothers, and he was pretty depressed,” Cena said. “I’m like, ‘Hey man, what do you want out of life?’ and he said, ‘To be happy,’ and I love that statement, but my follow-up question was, ‘What does that mean?’ and he said, ‘I don’t know.'”
“So, money simply is just a tool, and I think so many people, just my perspective, who are struggling financially just want to feel safe, but they have no idea what safe means,” he added.
One of Cena’s new endeavors is partnering with Chime, an alternative to traditional banking that provides free mobile banking to users.

“I have four brothers, and I’ve helped three of them with their own financial education. I’ve helped my mom, I’ve helped my dad a little bit, I’ve helped my cousin, and I’m kind of doing this stuff in my free time anyway, so I’m really grateful that Chime found me,” he said.
Cena also enjoys spending more time with his wife, Shay. While he was “doing movies and sports entertainment and WWE at the same time, the one thing that felt deficient was my relationship with [Shay],” he said.
“Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do that, and she’s such a trooper in understanding that,” he added. “I think we’ve managed to find a little more time for each other, which we truly both appreciate.”
Even though Cena retired from wrestling, he’s still part of the WWE, just in a different way. He recently returned as the new host for WrestleMania.
As Cena walked out to the stage for WrestleMania, the crowd erupted with cheers.
“Wow, I didn’t expect that. Thank you so much,” he told the crowd. “Sorry, long-time fan, long-time performer, first-time host. How am I doing so far?
“Now I see why I got the hosting gig. This is the moment I love the most, especially on the road to WrestleMania,” he continued. “We’re all in here for the same reason, because we know the time to talk is up, the time to deliver is now, and we are all here with one thing on our minds: ‘Who tonight will step up and deliver?'”
“It is such a great honor. Ladies and gentlemen, and everyone watching around the world, welcome to WrestleMania!” Cena concluded.
It looks like Cena is making the most of his retirement so far!
