Mark Wahlberg recently shared about how his stardom has occasionally been a burden to his children.

“They know dad’s just a regular guy. It just happens to be my job,” he explained to Fox News Digital. “There are pros and cons to it, right? I mean, if they want to meet somebody, there’s a good chance I could make it happen, but there’s also a lot of baggage that comes with it.”

He tries to lighten the load by being present.

“[I try] to stay as connected to them as possible and be just a normal dad,” he said.

The father of four and his oldest daughter recently attended a college party at a bar, where Wahlberg played bartender.

It was a little difficult, especially the fact that, here’s my daughter now hanging out in a bar when I’m just thinking about taking her to kindergarten, elementary school, but, you know, it goes by fast, and she’s a wonderful young lady, and she’s having an amazing time at Clemson,” he said. “They have a lot of fun, but she’s getting some work done too.”

In 2012, Wahlberg said, “If I succeed as a businessman but fail as a father, then it’s all been for nothing. That’s by far the most important role that I’ll ever play in my life — being a parent and being a husband.”

The same year, Wahlberg got some tattoos removed and wanted that to be a lesson to his children to make good decisions.

“[The tattoos] all have meaning to me, but you know it’s both personal and professional,” the actor told TODAY host Matt Lauer. “I don’t want to have my kids getting tattoos…. I’m taking my two oldest kids with me to the procedure, where they can see how painful that is.”

Last year, he shared that everything he does is for his children.

“It’s for their future,” Wahlberg said at the PLAY DIRTY premiere last year. “I try to find that balance. They came to Australia while I was making this movie to visit.”

“[I’m] trying to find that balance of spending quality time with them,” he told Us Weekly, “and then also being able to fulfill my creative endeavors.”

For the most part, his children usually aren’t that impressed with his fame.

“Ehh, a little bit,” he said. “Here and there. Every once in a while.”

“I introduced my daughters to LaKeith Stanfield, who they adore and are huge fans of,” he said. “Then that’s cool for a little bit.”

We applaud Wahlberg for putting his family first.
