What You Need To Know:
YOU, ME & TUSCANY is a breezy, enchanting and funny romantic comedy. It’s one of the more entertaining, charming rom coms in recent years. The characters are very appealing, even Matteo when he starts acting like a jerk. Even better, YOU, ME & TUSCANY has a strong, heartwarming pro-family theme. However, the movie has a fair amount of foul language and some off-color humor and innuendo. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong and extreme caution.
Content:
Strong moral, pro-family worldview where family helps people overcome they’re dysfunctional relationship, with some light redemptive content where people repent from lying, mitigated by some Romantic feelings and lawlessness (in a philosophical sense);
19 obscenities (one “f” word but many “h” words and a few “s” words) and four OMG profanities;
Some comical violence such as young woman tries to escape down a drain pipe from a second-story villa but the pipe collapses and bends down almost to the ground where she falls to the ground on her back and two men get into a fight;
Unmarried woman and are ready to fornicate together but man falls asleep because he’s suffering from jet lag, plus there are some lewd comments intended to be comical and a side female character who’s married says she cheated on her husband;
Some upper male nudity and female cleavage;
Some alcohol use and woman has a hangover after drinking too much the night before;
No smoking or drugs; and,
People lie but the lies are revealed or confessed and people repent.
More Detail:
After her mother, a brilliant chef, died, a grieving Anna quit culinary school and started housesitting for rich clients in New York City. However, she’s been living through her clients and their rich lifestyle. So, her latest client fires Anna when she catches her wearing her clothes. Anna’s best friend, Claire, comically chastises Anna while encouraging her to start using her culinary skills.
That night, Anna is drowning her sorrows at a local saloon when she meets Matteo, a young Italian businessman from Tuscany, Italy. Matteo tells her how he decided to leave his family back home because he didn’t want to run the family business, a little restaurant. He tells her he owns a villa back home, but he never stays in it. He encourages Anna to visit Tuscany.
Anna ends up in Matteo’s hotel room, but Matteo is overcome by jet jag, so he falls asleep on the bed waiting for her to come out of the bathroom. Anna sleeps in the hotel room and wakes up to find Matteo has left to catch an early flight. He tells her to go ahead and order anything she wants from room service.
Anna decides to change her life by flying to Tuscany and visiting Matteo’s hometown. However, when she gets there, there are no hotel rooms because the town is about to have a big summer festival. All the rooms are already booked.
With help from an English-speaking, eccentric taxi driver named Lorenzo, Anna learns her way around town. She has a run-in with a young delivery man, a handsome black man who takes a sandwich that she was fixing to buy in one of the shops. She tries to use her feminine charms to get the guy to let her have the sandwich, but he’s not moved.
Anna ends up at Matteo’s empty villa. She finds a hidden key and lets herself into the place. The next morning, she does a little exploring and finds an engagement ring Matteo has hidden in one of the drawers. Of course, just then, Matteo’s mother, Gabriella, and Nonna or grandmother enter to clean up the place, even though Matteo hasn’t been there in one or two years. Anna tries to hide, but it’s useless. Gabriella and Nonna are angry and wonder what this strange young black woman is doing in Matteo’s villa. Then, they see Anna wearing the engagement ring. They’re so excited about the prospect of Matteo getting married that Anna lies and says she indeed is Matteo’s girlfriend but didn’t know about the ring.
They invite Anna for lunch at Gabriella’s house. The family’s restaurant is run by Gabriella’s taciturn husband, Vincenzo. Anna takes Lorenzo’s cab to the luncheon. She intends to tell the family the truth, so she tells Lorenzo to wait for her. However, once again she feels trapped by the circumstances and the family’s excitement for Matteo. Anna also learns that the delivery guy is actually Matteo’s adopted brother, Mihcael. Michael’s parents from England had settled in Tuscany but tragically died when Michael was young. So, Matteo’s parents, who loved Mihcael and his parents, adopted Michael as their own.
Anna starts getting to know Michael and realizes he’s not such a bad guy after all. Of course, just as they’re getting to know one another, Matteo unexpectedly shows up to complicate everything.
Can Anna win back the sympathies of Matteo’s family when the truth is revealed?
