The NCISverse just expanded. NCIS: NEW YORK is on its way, an exciting new addition to the franchise, which will star LL Cool J and Scott Caan.

The new series centers on LL Cool J’s return as Special Agent Sam Hanna, a character he originally played on NCIS: LOS ANGELES for 14 seasons. In NCIS: NEW YORK, Hanna heads back to his hometown of New York City, where he joins a field office and helps lead a team of agents. Scott Caan, best known for his role on HAWAII FIVE-0, co-stars as the agent partnered with Hanna.

“Legendary NCIS Agent Sam Hanna (LL COOL J) returns to his hometown of New York City to their field office, partnering with a roguish agent (Scott Caan) and helping lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world,” the logline reads.

“LL is like a member of our family at CBS, he’s done pop-ins on NCIS the last two years since LA ended, and it’s been really successful,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “And the opportunity for Sam Hanna, who is originally from New York but lived in LA for NCIS: LA, to send him back home felt like a really ripe creative space to play in.”

She added, “Plus, there is a huge port and Navy presence in New York — I cannot wait for the premiere party on the Intrepid. We always want to look for what makes an expansion unique and special, and we thought there was just so much opportunity with this.”

She emphasized that they “really wanted to bring the Sam Hanna character back.”

They announced the news on Instagram with a Reel that showed a phone with NCIS calling.

“Start spreading the news… NCIS: NEW YORK is coming to CBS this fall,” NCISverse said in the caption.

People in the comment section shared mixed feelings, some expressing excitement and others wanting canceled NCIS shows to make a comeback instead.

“Yes!! Love LL Cool J & Scott Caan! Looking forward,” one person said. Another added, “Excuse me, I love the NCIS franchise. But now it’s getting ridiculous with these spin-offs that don’t last.”

Another person criticized, “You’ve gotta be kidding me…..y’all just couldn’t renew HAWAII? All of a sudden you got money for this? Make it make sense.”

This new show comes after the recent cancellation of NCIS: TONY & ZIVA.

NCIS: NEW YORK will premiere Fall 2026.
