Movieguide®’s Ted Baehr Meets Leaders in Washington

Date:  Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013

Movieguide® Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr visited Capitol Hill Wednesday and met with several high-ranking officials to encourage them to transform the culture through Hollywood and the mass media.

He visited Capitol Hill today with William J. Murray of the Religious Freedom Coalition and met with several Congressmen:  Sam Johnson of Texas, Steve King of Iowa, Randy Forbes of Virginia, and Louis Gohmert of Texas.

The message was clear on each visit. The media creates the culture that elects the politicians.

Dr. Baehr also spoke at Paul Weyrich’s luncheon at the Ebeneezer Coffee House next to the Capitol Building. In attendance was Rep. Eric Cantor, the second in command at the House of Representatives under Speaker John Boehner, along with several other Congressmen and conservative political leaders.

“The media creates the culture that shapes the hearts and minds of the people, especially future generations,” Dr. Baehr said.

“As my friend, Dr. Sarah-Jane Murray paraphrases Plato,” he added, “‘A civilization that forgets how to tell its story dies.’ Christians, American patriots, conservatives, and traditionalists must be able to do that with today’s modern tools of communication, such as smart phones, tablets, spectacular big-screen movie events, and digital streaming on YouTube and other video sites on the Internet. Otherwise, they will lose tomorrow’s battles in the Culture War.”

Author of THE CULTURE-WISE FAMILY® and HOW TO SUCCEED IN HOLLYWOOD (WITHOUT LOSING YOUR SOUL), Dr. Baehr is chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) ministry and director of its family guide to movies and entertainment, Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org). CFTVC and Movieguide® are an international non-profit ministry, advocacy group, and watchdog dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”
