Tim Tebow: ‘The Purpose of Life Is Not To Be Happy, It’s To Love God’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Tim Tebow often uses his Instagram account to share his Christian faith, from Bible verses to his thoughts on happiness and his role in life.

Earlier this month, Tebow posted a screenshot of one of his tweets: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It’s to love God and to love people, to be of service, to be compassionate, loving, honorable, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived with significance.”

He captioned his post: “I don’t believe happiness is our purpose, or what we strive for. I don’t believe God sent us to earth to pursue happiness. I believe everyone has the same macro purpose, love God and love people. Below are two parts of scripture I want to encourage you with.”

The football player than shared Matthew 22:36-39:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Tebow also pointed to 1 Peter 4:10-11:

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

A few days later, Tebow posted a video explaining his thoughts on his role in life as a man. He wrote:

I believe men are called to be protectors, givers, and those who fight on behalf of others- the least, the lost, and the last.

“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Movieguide® previously reported on Tebow’s commitment to his faith and how it guides him:

Former NFL player Tim Tebow recently shared the mission that God gave him to accomplish at the 2022 Passion Conference.

“Every single one of us has been given a mission by God, for God, and that mission is possible,” the 35-year-old shared.

“You see on the macro, I believe every single one of us has the same mission: To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and to love your neighbor as yourself. … But, I also believe that every single one of us, we have a micro-mission — something that God has designed exactly for you,” he added.

Tebow, who first rose to popularity for displaying his Christian faith as the star quarterback for the University of Florida Gators, also quoted Ephesians 2:10: “For we are His workmanship (or masterpieces), created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared before for us to walk in.”

“We have a micro-purpose, something designed exactly for you, that is only for you because before you were ever born, the God of this universe wrote a poem that in Christ Jesus is a masterpiece for good things for you to do,” Tebow said. “And guess what, your poem is just for you. It’s only for you. There is something so unique and special that is just for you. In Christ Jesus, you’re a masterpiece.”
