Even though losing their daughter was the “worst” thing to ever happen to Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, they’re glad that God has given them so much peace and good in the aftermath.

“It sounds nuts because it’s the worst thing that ever happened in my life,” Alexa explained in episode of “The Upload” podcast.

But “He just completely used this awful experience and situation and he showed us so much good through it,” Carlos added.

In April 2024, the couple lost their daughter, Indy. She was born stillborn.

Just one month after Indy’s death, Alexa said, “You know this season, obviously is the most traumatic thing that we’ve ever had to go through as a family…I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything quite like this. And I hope to never ever have to experience anything like this ever again.”

“But it’s been really incredible to see how God has just moved through our family,” she continued. “During this time, we have obviously felt a lot of pain. A lot of pain. But also, an insane amount of peace.”

She calls the loss “pain with purpose,” because their family transformed because of Indy.

“Our family has never been stronger, my faith has never been stronger, my marriage has never been stronger,” the star said. “Her life was so purposeful in just that short little bit that we had with her. And while she may not have taken a breath here on earth, she did not go without purpose.”

Before Indy died, Alexa’s relationship with Carlos wasn’t what it should have been.

“I felt, like, this is me being a good wife, honoring him [and thinking], ‘Whatever he says goes.’ I ended up finding out [that] this tiptoeing was total fear of him, and there was no reason to fear him,” she explained.

Then something shifted.

“I was ignited on the inside, [where] this fear just got stomped out,” the actress said. “I have a boldness now, which in the first little bit, it was actually kind of hard because I was challenging [Carlos] for the first time in our marriage — or since the beginning of our relationship ‘cause I used to have that fire early on, and then I kind of became complacent.”

Now, they’re enjoying marriage 2.0.

“It’s…like, we started over and we started dating again,” she said on Wednesday’s episode. “There’s just a fire that I think wasn’t fanned enough on my part for a long time that [has] now been ignited. It just feels so different now.”

Carlos also added, “I think what’s been amazing is that …our Indy and then even recently [with] Charlie Kirk, like these guys, their lives have been so much more impactful after [death]. I look at my life, and…I want to make sure whatever happens to me, when I do go, it’d be awesome if my life is as impactful if not more afterward.”

Their testimony really shows how God brings good out of pain.
