NFL QB Russell Wilson Produces GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL Series

NFL quarterback Russell Wilson has joined pastor and high school football coach Denny Duron in the new Amazon Freevee series GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL.

“I can’t even tell you what it means to have Russell Wilson involved,” Duron said. “Russell really, really loves Jesus and is so open about his faith. My conversation with him just a couple of weeks ago was fire. I mean, he is so excited about this. I think he was more fired up than I was, honestly.”

“He said, ‘I’m going to war with you guys,” he added. “‘We’re going to believe that God is going to use this to touch people’s lives.’ He was just really preaching.”

“I got off of that phone call like: ‘Man, God has really put this vision of God, family, football in Russell Wilson’s heart. He’s proud of the series; that makes us proud. He is just committed with everything that’s within him to seeing this thing succeed,” Duron expressed.

Wilson is the executive producer of the series.

“What drew me to this project and inspired me to help tell GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL’S story of teamwork, hard work, and discipline was coach Duron’s faith-first approach to the game,” the quarterback told Amazon Studios.

“Football has been a constant in my life ever since I was a kid,” Wilson shared in an Instagram post. “But my faith and my family have been there with me from the beginning…that’s why I’m so inspired by the story Evangel Christian Academy and what they teach to their players—God, family, football.”

“With the perennial high school football powerhouse…coming off their worst season in school history, redemption is everyone’s goal. Pastor Denny Duron has returned to the head coaching position to lead this talented group of kids…into prominence on the field, while molding them into future leaders off of it,” a description of the series reads.

“As the team faces struggle and triumph on and off the field, they are united by coach Duron’s formula for success: ‘God first, family second, and football third,’” it concludes.

Wilson continued, “As the leader of Evangel Christian Academy, one of the top football programs in the country, coach Duron not only preaches but exemplifies what it means to be a winner on and off the field, and it is an honor to be able to share his lessons and legacy.”

At 17, Coach Duron felt called into ministry. However, he also had an opportunity to play quarterback for Louisiana Tech University. He seized his chance and led the team to two NCAA Division II National Championships.

“I just assumed that because I had this call to ministry that I was not going to play more football. But when I was recruited by Louisiana Tech, the Lord really spoke to my heart and said, ‘I’ve called you here to play football for My glory,'” Duron revealed.

“From that point to this, football has just been a platform for me to share my faith,” he continued. “God has always been first in it. In fact, if I wasn’t allowed to share my faith in doing the football thing, then I wouldn’t have done the football thing because it was just a means to an end.”

GOD. FAMILY. FOOTBALL. premieres Sept. 1 on Amazon Freevee.

Movieguide® previously reported on Wilson:

Since the Seattle Seahawks drafted QB Russell Wilson in 2012, the team has avoided a losing record.

However, after a rocky start to the NFL season this year, Wilson and the Seahawks came away with a win against the San Francisco 49ers to bring their overall record to 2-2.

Aside from evading a 1-3 losing record, the win also marked a record-breaking statistic for Wilson. The pro-bowler became the fastest NFL QB to reach 100 career wins.

The outspoken Christian took to Twitter after the game and gave credit to Jesus.

“JESUS… YOU get ALL the Glory!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾,” Russell tweeted.
