A new Batman film, THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, is in the works, and James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, shared some updates.
“THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD script, I like where we are,” he said, per IGN.
Although based on a comic, Gunn explained that the movie will deviate from the source material a bit, specifically regarding whether or not Bruce Wayne’s son, Damien Wayne, will make an appearance.
“I think you have to wait to see the movie,” he responded to the speculations. “Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it – Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to…Listen, first of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman.”

Gunn added, “I think you’d have a harder time finding actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play. That’s the truth.”
DC wants to be intentional with how they bring the Caped Crusader into the revamped universe.
“Batman has to have a reason for existing, right?” Gunn told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “So Batman can’t just be ‘Oh, we’re making a Batman movie because Batman’s the biggest character in all of Warner Bros.,’ which he is. But because there’s a need for him in the DCU and a need that he’s not exactly the same as [THE BATMAN director] Matt [Reeves]’s Batman.”
Despite many questions on the upcoming film, Gunn remains mostly tight-lipped.
In a discussion in July with Josh Horowitz of Games Radar, he said, “There’s people out there I think about, but let’s see where the script comes in. It’s not the furthest along thing. I mean, we have things that are much, much further along.”
Matt Reeves’ sequel to 2022’s THE BATMAN, starring Robert Pattinson, is also on its way.
Movieguide®’s review reads “THE BATMAN is another version of the famous comic book hero. It stars Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, aka Bruce Wayne. A mysterious masked man calling himself The Riddler murders Gotham City’s Mayor, accusing him of being part of rampant city-wide corruption.”
The review notes that the film “Takes place in a dark world and is seriously hampered by many strong profanities about Jesus and other foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.”
Superhero Hype speculates that THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD will debut sometime in 2028 or 2029 so it doesn’t conflict with Reeves’ THE BATMAN II Oct. 1, 2027, release.
