Do you know what sin is? Atlanta Falcons running back Nathan Carter explained in a recent Instagram post the deadly nature of turning away from God.
“You’re Either Killing Sin or Sin Is Killing You,” Carter wrote last week. “The word ‘sin’ means ‘missing the mark,’ but it’s more than that; it’s rebellion against God. It’s saying, ‘I am the god of my life.’ We’ve all sinned and deserve death, eternal separation from God’s glory and goodness.”
“But God, in His amazing grace, sent Jesus to live a sinless life and to die the death we deserved. He honored God, spoke truth in love, forgave His enemies, served others, and obeyed the Father completely. On the cross, He endured our punishment so we could be forgiven, adopted as God’s children, and set free from sin. He rose again, victorious over death and sin, offering us new life in Him.”
Carter continued, “And yet, if this is so amazing, why do we keep entertaining the sins Jesus died to save us from? Romans 6:12 says, ‘Do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.’ Through Jesus, we have new life. Romans 6:6-7 says, ‘Our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with…anyone who has died has been set free from sin.'”

Carter concluded the post by including a few examples of sin: watching porn, sleeping with someone outside of marriage, gossip, greed, pride and many more.
“Stop flirting with sin. Remember, Jesus died for this, and He gives you power to overcome it,” the running back urged. “Sin is everywhere, but Jesus gives you power through the Spirit to walk in victory. This is not condemnation, it’s love. Submit to Him, reflect Christ, and walk in the new life He bought for you.
Many of Carter’s followers shared their appreciation for his biblical stance.
“Glad to see you use your platform this way, brother,” one person wrote.
Another said, “Keep speaking the TRUTH, brother.”
“Thank you, sir, you are an excellent steward of our Lord and Savior, and a wonderful role model for others,” another commented.
In another post, he urged his followers to make sure they’re living for Christ, reflected on Philippians 1:21.
“When Paul says, ‘To live is Christ,’ he isn’t just speaking casually,” Carter wrote. “He is declaring a profound truth. Life cannot be found in anything else but Christ. Nothing else can truly satisfy. And when he says, ‘To die is gain,’ he is saying that death is not a loss, because he will be with Christ. Heaven, a place free from sin, sickness, and death, will be far better than anything on earth.”
The Falcons are currently 2-2, following their 34-27 win over the Washington Commanders over the weekend. They’ll next face off against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 13 at 7:15 p.m. EDT.
