Atlanta Falcons running back Nathan Carter wants his fans to understand what they gain when they believe the gospel.
“The Gospel Isn’t About What You Escape, it’s About Who You Gain,” Carter wrote on Instagram. “We often hear that the Gospel saves us from hell, sin, and judgment. That’s true, but have you ever stopped to realize it also saves us for something infinitely greater: God Himself? We are not only saved from sin, death, and judgment…we are saved for God Himself, for something greater, eternal, and beautiful.”

The running back included Leviticus 22:33: “I am the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God.”
“In the Old Testament, God delivered His people from slavery to belong to Him. The Exodus points forward to Christ: just as God delivered Israel to Himself, He delivers us to Himself through His Son. Salvation is not only about being rescued from future judgment; it is about being drawn into the loving arms of God. To be in fellowship with Him, adopted into His royal family, and to belong to Him forever,” Carter continued.
1 Peter 2:9, found in the New Testament, points to this truth: “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
So what exactly is the gospel?
“The Gospel is relational. It is purposeful,” Carter said. “Your life was so precious to God that He bought it at the highest price, with the life of His Son. The One who set the sun in the sky, who hung the stars in their places, calls you His own, His cherished possession.”
“The Gospel gives us purpose: to know God, to make Him known, to glorify Him, and to reflect Christ in the world,” he continued. “We were saved by Christ so that Christ would reign in us. We belong to Him. Our identity is in Him. And for those who are in Christ, nothing can separate us from His love, and nothing can take us away from Him.”
“We were saved from death. We were saved for God. And there is no greater place to be than in His presence, in His loving arms, forever calling Him ‘Abba, Father.’ Let this truth sink in today: for those who put their faith in Christ, you belong to Him, now and for eternity,” he concluded.
The NFL rookie went undrafted out of Michigan State but signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent last month. He’s using his newfound NFL platform to point people to Jesus.
“Jesus wants you, all of you. Until you surrender every area of your life to Him, are you really living?” he wrote on Instagram last week.
