‘So Blessed’: Jen Lilley Talks Recent Mission Trip to Uganda
By Movieguide® Contributor
Jen Lilley just shared some details about a recent mission trip to Uganda with Project Orphans.
“I haven’t been posting because I’m simply overwhelmed with emotion and thoughts,” she wrote under a series of pictures from the trip. “I think Uganda is going to take me a long time to process. There’s just no words yet. So this won’t be eloquent, but I want to share some of these moments in hopes it touches your hearts.”
Lilley wrote about a specific family she got to help that was sleeping on the floor of their home, and “our group was so blessed to be able to be part of delivering and assembling beds for them.”
“They asked for prayer and someone said, go get Jen. Apparently I’m the prayer girl here, and I’m totally loving that reputation,” the actress continued. “I love these people so much. We also got to have a big birthday celebration for the kids and after that, we got to take the young ladies at @project_orphans shopping, followed by an intimate dinner where I got to speak to several in depth and pour into them. Truly, I think they poured more into me. I’m just undone.”
Lilley encouraged her followers to support Project Orphans, an organization that is “relentlessly committed to raising a generation of advocates that believe injustice does not have breath in their community,” per their website.
“We see a future where people are not just living to survive, but operating through the overflow of their transformative identity, giving way to compassion to help others,” the organization’s website continued.
Project Orphans also posted about the Uganda mission Lilley was a part of, writing, “It takes a village to make a difference! Having different teams come and serve alongside Project Orphans in Uganda allows us to cast a wider net and make a difference alongside the PO Ugandan staff.”
The caption continued, “Then when we leave, the Ugandan team is able to continue to provide services and programs that deepens the impact. This team is super special! It is filled with PO board members, advocates, child sponsors, donors, and staff from our partner organization @tulsagirlshomeok. We come from all different backgrounds and parts of the country — but unite with a deep passion to serve and be a voice for the orphan!”
Movieguide® previously reported on Lilley’s humanitarian work:
Actress Jen Lilley is “grateful beyond words” as she celebrates the collection of almost 3,000 backpacks for kids in need.
“Grateful beyond words!” she posted on Instagram. “Together, we’ve achieved something truly amazing — raising 2,964 backpacks filled with top-notch school supplies for children in foster care!”
The actress continued, “Plus, we gave 746 cozy blankets, 728 pairs of comforting pajamas and 222 stuffies! Thank you to everyone who contributed, donated, and spread the word. Your kindness and compassion have made this possible! We cannot wait to continue making a positive impact and empowering these kids this fall! Love you, world changers!”
Lilley has been working to collect backpacks and other supplies for children in foster care in the Roanoke Valley.
“These children fall into the cracks; only 50% of children in foster care graduate high school, and only 3% go on to a graduate school or a college,” Lilley explained. “It’s very important that these kids understand that there are people all around them that believe that they can rewrite the narrative of their story.”
