Actress Jen Lilley is “grateful beyond words” as she celebrates the collection of almost 3,000 backpacks for kids in need.
“Grateful beyond words!” she posted on Instagram. “Together, we’ve achieved something truly amazing — raising 2,964 backpacks filled with top-notch school supplies for children in foster care!”
The actress continued, “Plus, we gave 746 cozy blankets, 728 pairs of comforting pajamas and 222 stuffies! Thank you to everyone who contributed, donated, and spread the word. Your kindness and compassion have made this possible! We cannot wait to continue making a positive impact and empowering these kids this fall! Love you, world changers!”
Lilley has been working to collect backpacks and other supplies for children in foster care in the Roanoke Valley.
“These children fall into the cracks; only 50% of children in foster care graduate high school, and only 3% go on to a graduate school or a college,” Lilley explained. “It’s very important that these kids understand that there are people all around them that believe that they can rewrite the narrative of their story.”
Lilley also partnered with GAC for the Camp Christmas initiative, where fans could watch GAC Christmas movies and donate to Lilley’s foster care project.
The actress called the campaign “an interactive experience where fans, celebrities and brands join forces to fundraise for a cause” and said she hoped to send “2,021 children in foster care back to school with all the supplies needed for a successful school year.”
