Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold recently shared the thought process behind his recent decision to be baptized.
“Yesterday I took the most important step in life; I found myself feeling empty, and the past couple weeks I haven’t been myself,” he shared on Instagram late last month.
Arnold then shared a conversation he had with Jason Wilson, an author and podcaster, where Wilson asked him when he came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior.

“I told him I couldn’t remember, but I did it when I was a kid,” Arnold wrote. “At that point in my life, I was young and trying to do the right thing, but I simply just didn’t have the understanding of it. Well, yesterday Jesus called me, and I answered that call. The void that I was feeling the past few weeks and the emptiness I felt were lifted, and I gave all my burdens to him. You see, oftentimes in life we put the cart before the horse.”
The NFL player continued, “Remember, salvation isn’t about performance — it’s about your position. In Christ, salvation has positioned you in Him — secure, forgiven, and loved—not because of your stats in life or on the field, but because of His sacrifice (Ephesians 2:8–9).”
“In Christ, you don’t have to chase attention or approval anymore — not from fans, not from coaches, and not even from family. You already have the Father’s approval through the sacrifice of Yahushua,” Arnold concluded.
The cornerback also previously spoke about the importance of family.
In a 2024 interview, Arnold shouted out his mother, saying, “Mom, if you’re watching this right now, your son just wants to say how proud he is of you. You had me at a young age and you overcame a lot of adversity…I just want to say, Tamela Arnold, I love you.”
“I’m blessed to have you as a mom,” he added.
Arnold is currently dealing with a shoulder injury that might take him out of some games, but the football player is staying positive.
“When I first got the news, I wanted to cry, because I just loved playing football and being out there with my teammates,” he told Sports Illustrated. “Right now, I’m just trying to stay as positive as possible. I feel like those different opinions, or having different people look at it, like my second opinion went very, very well. But like I said, I’m just trying to stay positive about it.”
Arnold’s decision to be baptized is an important step in strengthening his relationship with Christ.
