ROCK THE BLOCK Stars Call Season 5 ‘Biggest Season Yet’

By Movieguide® Contributor

The stars of HGTV’s ROCK THE BLOCK are sharing their thoughts on the show’s “biggest [season] yet.”

“It’s probably the most dramatic season yet,” host Ty Pennington said of Season 5, which sees four teams of previous competitors returning to ROCK THE BLOCK to makeover houses in Treasure Island, Florida. “It’s also some of the best in the business coming back to redeem themselves from what we all hate, failing and losing.”

He continued, “I’d say it’s the biggest one yet. The ideas are bigger. The reveals are bigger. I think the competition knew who they were competing against, so they had to bring some extra oomph and it showed.”

HGTV’s website promised that “the pressure will be at an all-time high” this season, “as HGTV powerhouse duos return to the Block seeking a renovation showdown to settle old scores and achieve victory — winning bragging rights and a street named in their honor.”

The show’s stars agreed that the pressure was on for this season of ROCK THE BLOCK.

FIX MY FLIP’s Page Turner called the show “tough,” adding, “The fact we’ve been on HGTV this long shows what champions we are, but ROCK THE BLOCK is another level of stress and opportunity. It’s this balancing act where it’s the hardest thing I’ve done in my entire life, but also one of the most rewarding, especially careerwise.”

“You go through a lot of ups and downs,” RENOVATION ISLAND star Sarah Baeumler added. “You have to be able to handle it and think on your feet, deal with the long days and things you may have never done before. We’re all seasoned professionals, which is what you need to go into this. It would be a very different experience if it was someone brand-new, on the first day with a tool belt. You have to be able to deal with a lot.”

In an interview with Realtor.com, Pennington was asked if he would ever consider competing on ROCK THE BLOCK.

“It’s always a possibility,” he teased. “I’m very competitive. I will say this: Out of all the competitions, ROCK THE BLOCK is the biggest, it’s the baddest, and it is the hardest. So yeah, I would be open to winning.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Season 5 of ROCK THE BLOCK:

ROCK THE BLOCK is coming back for a fifth season.

“The houses up for renovation are attached waterfront homes located in Treasure Island, Florida, which we’re sure will make for some pretty coastal-creative home ideas,” the HGTV website reads. “Each team will have just six weeks and a budget of $250,000 to renovate attached waterfront homes, each featuring a pool, boat dock and dazzling views of Boca Ciega Bay, and transform them into luxurious homes that reflect their signature vision and stunning design style.”

This season’s competitors include BATTLE ON THE BEACH’s Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, BARGAIN BLOCK’s Keith Bynum and Evan Thompson, UNSELLABLE HOUSES sister team Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis, FIX MY FLIP’s Mitch Glew and house-flipping expert Page Turner.

Host Ty Pennington shared that this season has “got it all — blood, sweat and definitely some tears!” while former ROCK THE BLOCK winner Brian Kleinschmidt, who is returning to the show as a judge, said, “We’ve been involved with all 5 Seasons of RTB and this will be the biggest, boldest and best one yet!”
