AN UNLIKELY ANGEL

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
AN UNLIKELY ANGEL tells a well-produced, well-acted story about a pregnant, creative toy executive making the biggest pitch of her career who suddenly goes into labor and discovers that God answers prayer, but not in the way she would have expected. Streaming on Pure Flix, AN UNLIKELY ANGEL has a sharp script, a great surprise ending and a strong Christian, biblical worldview that includes Bible reading, prayer and timely conversations about faith, family and courage.

THE BLIND

Quality:
***
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
THE BLIND tells the story of how Christian celebrity, pastor and businessman Phil Robertson turned his life around by following Jesus Christ. THE BLIND is a very good movie as a Christian testimony, but its structure doesn’t follow all the rules of filmmaking, and the movie has some rough moments about drinking and sinfulness, so MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution, especially for children and young teenagers.

REDEMPTION WAY

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
REDEMPTION WAY WAY is a faith-based movie available on DVD, Amazon and other places about a female hospice worker and Christian trying to find the best way to witness to her atheist childhood friend, who’s dying of leukemia. REDEMPTION WAY is a powerful drama with a strong heartfelt Christian, biblical message about turning to God, but Jesus is only mentioned once. Caution is advised for younger children because of scenes with a young woman dying.

THE HILL (2023)

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
THE HILL tells the inspiring true story of Rickey Hill, a young boy with a degenerative spinal disease whose dream is to play Major League Baseball and, despite having to wear leg braces for most of his childhood, and his father’s strong desire for him to become a pastor, perseveres. THE HILL is a morally uplifting story of a real-life miracle and champions courage, perseverance, faith, and forgiveness, but it does have brief, light foul language and two scenes of drunkenness.

THE BOYS IN THE BOAT

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
THE BOYS IN THE BOAT is based on the book by Daniel James Brown of the same name about the real-life, inspiring University of Washington’s rowing team and their journey to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. THE BOYS IN THE BOAT is very entertaining, well-acted and well-made and tells an inspiring, patriotic, uplifting true story with strong biblical, moral, redemptive themes stressing standing up against tyranny, sacrifice, family, and fighting for one’s country, but there is some gratuitous foul language, so caution is advised for older children.

ALL SAINTS

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
ALL SAINTS is a powerful story, very heartrending and entertaining, about a pastor who hears from God and does the right thing in spite of opposition. ALL SAINTS is one of Sony Affirm’s best movies and is based on a Kairos Prize finalist script.

WAR ROOM

Quality:
****
Content:
+4 Biblical, usually Christian, worldview, with no questionable elements whatsoever.
WAR ROOM is a very emotional, compelling Christian movie about spiritual warfare, in a story about a married couple having problems. Although the topic of prayer seems to be elusive as a major plot, the filmmakers of WAR ROOM do a great job of making it exciting.

ON A WING AND A PRAYER

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
ON A WING AND A PRAYER tells the inspiring true story of Doug White and his miraculous flying of a private plane carrying his wife and their two daughters when the pilot dies. ON A WING AND A PRAYER has a strong Christian moral worldview, with many powerful scenes of prayer and divine intervention, but the action is intense, with a few light obscenities and a scene where an air traffic controller gets drunk at a bar.

FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS

Quality:
***
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS is a faith-based family drama about a workaholic father who neglects his family for an important business meeting during an Easter vacation with his parents while his father starts telling his two children and his sister’s daughter the story about Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. FORTY-SEVEN DAYS WITH JESUS is good family viewing, presents a general historical overview of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and nicely builds into a moving, inspiring ending that promotes repentance, forgiveness and living out one’s Christian faith.

SOUND OF FREEDOM

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
SOUND OF FREEDOM tells the true story of Tim Ballard, a former Homeland Security agent who puts his life on the line to rescue hundreds of children out of sex trafficking. SOUND OF FREEDOM is an incredible, gripping and heartbreaking, but hope-giving, movie with a strong Christian, moral that sheds light on the need for strong people to stand up for God’s children around the world who are caught in the vicious, abusive system of human trafficking, but MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong and extreme caution for the movie’s mature subject matter, some implied and depicted violence, implied abuse of children, and a scene of some bad guys using cocaine.
